Default Diode reader issues

Question. I found a drive bay LCD display that displays the temp reading from a POS probe that you tape to whatever you want to read. Would it be possible to mod the diode reader that pHaestus described to read from the diode and feed back the information to the LCD screen (emulate the thermistor)? I don't see why not, but I don't understand the construction and management of his diode reader enough to feel safe about it. Furthermore, the LCD screen runs off of a watch battery and presumably the probe is powered off of the same. If you CAN emulate the probe via the diode reader, would this added voltage damage your processor/mobo?

Any help would be appreciated. If this works, then it would provide a method of providing an LCD display to your case for the cost of building the diode reader + $20US (very cheeeep for a bay display).
