Default Eheim 1250 and 3/8 tubing

An Eheim 1250 comes with 1/2" barbs but I want to use 3/8" tubing. Could somebody manade to fit 3/8 tygon tubing on 1/2 barbs (just for an Eheim 1250)? Or I need an adapter?
Thank everybody.

Tygon or silicon should strech enough.

Most people here that have tried it report that it's very hard to do, but that it is possible.

The problem is - I believed a paper. It says that both barbs are 1/2. But actually only outlet is 1/2"=1.27cm. Inlet is 1.36cm and I cannot fit my 3/8". Maybe to warm the tubing?
Thank you everybode

yeah, one of the barbs is really large... It stretches the 1/2 a good bit. Me thinks 3/8" would be a real biatch.

The 1250 has threads on it, so you could just buy a 3/8 barb and add it.

Or have a few inches of 1/2 and then a reducer.

Go to your local hardware store and get nylon 3/8 to 1/2 hose fittings and a couple of clamps. Add 1 ft of 1/2 hose for spacers and you're gold. It might help water feed through the pump (lowering it an equal amt in resistance on the other end) and prevent internal turbulence (which lowers flow and raises heat).

Just as a side note, I think it'd be better tu use 1/2" tubing, with an Eheim 1250. What's the limitation here?

MeltMan: all eheim pumps are threaded and use adaptors to connect hose.
The stock 1048 comes by default with 2x 1/2"
The 1250 with 1x1/2" and 1x3/4"
I don't know for the 1060 (go check eheim.de )
All are perfectly leak proof thanx to o-rings (for Eheim parts, for that matter) so swapping connectors is child's play.

I'm not so sure about that. I carried it in and tried to get a fitting for the larger end with no luck at my local plumbing supplys distributer. Its definately less then 3/4, you can slide a 3/4 inch fitting right over it. My guess is 5/8, but I've never seen a 5/8 inch PVC fitting.

Tygon or silicon stretches fairly easy if you put the end of the hose in hot water...but you have to hurry and it is very pliable...

I fitted tygon 1/2 on inlet of Eheim 1250. Can say - it was difficult enough.

Remember these are German products. Like everyone around the world they use metric units... The 1250 has 1x12mm and 1x16mm connectors.

(edit)
I just checked Eheim site.
1048: 2x13mm (they're a tad bigger, because of the conical shape) thats about 1/2"
1250: 1x13mm + 1x17mm (that would be 1/2" and 3/4")
1060: 1x18mm + 1x28mm

Nomad2000 - For the suction side of the Eheim 1250, you need a 1/2"NPT (thread size) to 1/2" (tube size) fitting. This one here:

make sure you use teflon tape, because it doesn't have O-Ring like the original ones.

Tygon R-3603 is not as flexible as silicone, because it's still PVC based tubing. But like suggested earlier the hot water trick works.

It will, with 3/8" silicon tubing. I did it. Use hose clamps, as always... also realize that it will at least temporarily (more likely permanently) stretch the ends of the tubing.

If you put non-metric fittings on, they will not be perfect. I used teflon tape and used goop around the junction of the barb and pump. I'm not sure how this would work for the outlet barb, since it's somewhat recessed. This was all on a 1250, btw.

I have tygon with thick walls - it is softer. For 1250 I could fit 3/8 - outlet and 1/2 - inlet.

ehm. a little thaugh.
eheim 1250 + 3/8 size tubing = not a good idea.
id rather go for 1/2 inner diameter and hoseclamps on it.
