Lapping my GPU, help needed! *pics*

I've just finished my watercooled system - nice!
Although now, I am getting very tired of the high temps on my GPU (it was running at about 53 degrees celsius at idle)... So, I took of the waterblock, and discovered the problem at once... The waterblock had almost no contact with the center of the GPU! So I had two choices, using more AS3, or lapping the GPU - I chose the last option... So now, here I am, using sandpaper K600, K1200, K2000 and a heatsink (its level), but how long do I dare go - before I ruin my GPU? Never tried this before, plz help me!

Pictures of my progress so fare can be seen here:

(Also shows the concavety of the GPU )

No help
Anyway, the lapping I did (see pictures) really helped! I get temps at about 39 degrees idle now, instead of 51 degrees!

Most people do not have the balls to lap a GPU, including myself. Looks good though. Not exactly a good idea if it your only card or an expensive card. That can very easily kill it. Kinda odd how concaved they are. You would think they would go through the extra effort to make a good mating surface as hot as these things are getting.
