cpu temp
Hi all, newbie here.
What temp should my xp 1900 be running at? at the mo it's 51 ish when idle and can get upto 59 at full load. I'm using a Coolermaster HCC 002 Delta Heat Sink & Fan with the thermal paste that came with it. My system temp is ranging from 30 idle to 35 with a full load. My case is a juno p6 with two sunons at the front and three evercool's at the back...all fans are 80's. These temps are with a side panel off if i put it bcak on it all goes up by 3 - 4 degrees. thanks NM |

51C to 59C is about right, for an air cooled system on an Athlon XP 1900+. Is it overclocked? Voltage increased?
Can we interest you in watercooling? Your temps will drop to a range of 40-45. |

they sound about right, maybe a bit high with that heatsink. I doubt an alpha would help too much, water would be a better solution

i'm also new, but i don't think your heatsink not being warm is a problem. my p4 runs from 40 - 45 and the ax478 never seems to get warm. like i said though, i'm new.

Your heatsink would only feel warm if there was no fan over it.
Your temps are on the high side, but they're ok. You might consider remounting the heatsink, and using some thermal paste, like Arctic Silver 2: that might improve your numbers a little bit. As for water cooling, it's just a bit of tubing, a pump, a radiator, some water, a waterblock to fit over the CPU. and a bit of T&T (tool and time). It's an expense, and the best approach is to set a goal (i.e. quiet PC, cool PC, overclock): it makes the selection process a lot easier. |

I see a few people saying that those temps are about right. "in a pigs eye". with case temps 35c you can't expect too much from any cooling solution. I have recently replaced my tbird with a XP1800+ and it's running 1754@2.02 vcore and under full load it stays 35c. room temp is around 24c, case temp 29, and I'm using a swiftech mcxc370 hsf with a duct and a delta 68cfm 80mm fan.
so you see air might not cool as well water but it can come close with the right setup. don't just slap a hsf on and expect it to keep it cool you need airflow my friend. |

with the onboard thermosistor. I know what your going to say "they aren't accurate" the shuttle ak31 seems to be pretty close. when I had my tbird in this board temps would peak at 43c

Tell you what: I'll go on and say that your temps are unusually low (and take it for what it's worth) and I'll go on to say that the fella that started this thread's temps are 'bout average, but on the high side.
Can we agree to disagree? I wish pHaestus would step in here: he could show you how to link to the CPU's internal probe very easily. |

that wold be cool. I thought it was kinda wierd how temps dropped from 42c to 35c just from switching tbird with xp both are running about same wattage and everything else is the same. maybe since the core has a larger area than on the tbird made the difference. I don't really worry about the temps so much as it's stable. the way I figure it is if you can get a above average overclock and not have any errors it's got to be cool enough. the stepping I have is AGOGA and most of them top out around 1700.
I still say NaturalMystic45 will benifit from better case cooling plus a better heatsink wouldn't hurt eithier.

According to Radiate, and guessing on the C/W rating of your CoolerMaster (since you don't have the exact model number), you're temps are right on. The Swiftech MCX462 would drop your temps into the low 40s (~41°C). I would also examine you're case cooling to see what kind of circulation/ventilation you have, if any. I was able to drop my roommates temp 10-12°C just by doing that. Check it out here.
