duh, but easier with optical flats
come to the issue: is s17 doing so ? this is not a discussion of theory, its about s17's offer to do lapping and you ignored questions 1 and 2 ?? who is s17 ? and who is qualified to appraise him/his work ? |

???I duno. I never said I did.
All I said is, youlle get better results lapping by hand than by machine. Although, i supose he could send out a sample of his work to a qualified independant 3rd party, and they can test and verify it.

and I will in general contest that hand lapping IS superior to maching lapping for 1.5" copper squares
I know of ONE person whose hand is better, though doubtless there are many such in existance all forum lappers are making points, shiny and pointed are you good at lapping ? want a $100 bet ? |

Me?
I tried it once, way back when. On a Socket7 heat sink. Didn't turn out that well, but then again I was working with a really crappy setup, and didnt spend much time on it.

When I got my first block(WW) i decided to lap it.
Spent 2 hours doing so and in the end was using 2000 grit paper... Got a beautiful mirror reflection on it... But after a few mounts and remounts of the block it is all scratched up again... Am I going to spend the time to do that again... probably not...

sorry MH, you are in the line of fire
wth kiddies, are we still on the reflective finish bs ? flat has no necessary relation to reflective (shiny) and all the hand lapping does is make the point sharper (Steve at PolarFLO and N8 excepted) MH - you have no idea whatsover as to how FLAT your wb bp was |

old subject
search for all threads in which N8 posted, read 'em pH THIS subject is one which has been done to death, yet there seems nothing that one can refer to the Links ? |
