Right Section?

what would be a good fluid, fluid level, and pressure for the heatpipe i am building?

and whats an effective way to charge and cap it?

Unless you've got a particularly specialist application, you may well be better off buying one from a company who already make them. Link to one such company in the UK at the bottom of this post (google will have more - I just had that link to hand as I was toying with using one to cool the NBridge on a potential NF4 SLI system)

Odd, I couldn't find anything that looked promising in a quick look through google either. Still, heat pipes are fairly light so the UK one will probably ship them fairly happily, although you'd get stung by the current price of the dollar

I use flourinert FC87. or Novec hfe7000 fluid (3M) they boil at 30-34 C. Although you could use acetone (boils at 57C.) as a cheaper solution.

I bring the fluid up to boiling temp using a film heater (OMEGA) until I see a steady stream of vapor coming out the top. This is called out gassing and will provide best performance.

once you have a steady stream of vapor cap it(screw on?) then let it cool down.

In most cases a couple of thimblefulls of fluid is all you need. you have to make allowance for boil off during the outgassing .

you can use cotton or steel wool (000 fine) for a wick , ,my choice these days is copper wool

the article from the November2004 issue, P.19 would be helpfull too. Not sure wher to find it online though.

"Use of heatpipe cooling systems in the electronics industry" By a buncha dudes with crazy names that i dont feel like typing out. Maybe the gas fumes in my room are making me even more lazy than normal.
