If you can get a 12VDC pump like DangerDen, Swiftek, etc..., you can get rid of the pump relay.

As for the heatercore, that should not be fourty pounds! It should be more like ten to fifteen pounds, if costs for car parts are anywhere similar to US costs. I can buy a heatercore for $25 in the US. Is it that much more expensive in the UK to buy car parts plus some epoxy to add brass barbed fittings?

BTW, I am not very familiar with UK suppliers, so please forgive any ignorance. The only UK supplier I know of is Pug, and I've never actually perused his price lists.

£40 quote is from a wellknown pc shop based in uk(dont know about links or competitors so i wont link it) looks like a heater core with 4/5 to 1/2 fitted not eaven a shroud for that princely sum

point taken on pump il look at some flow charts and stress on cpu (300w generic 1 fan) thanks 4 the input

Not the case in the uk im afrade. There are only a few heatercores avalible that eaven come close to what we need (copper/brass designs etc.) The only chance we have of getting anything to match a chevette or caprice core is to import them from the US (hench the £40 price tag)

The only copper/brass cores that i have found in the uk are those In the vauxhall astra, nova and corsa. They are the same basic design as an american core but the tubes exit in the wrong place and they are quite a bit bigger and harder to fit into your case without alot of modding and lost drive bays. You can forget buying a new heatercore over here tho as its cheaper to import the correct ones from the US.

This is the kind of thing we have to put up with in England all the time

flatline- why dont you get a dangerden 12v pump? the money you save from not having to buy a relay will make up the differance and a dd12v will give you a huge increce in performance.

SlaterSpeed thankyou 4 your comments i thort it was just me going mad but i have found 1 2nd hand "nova" core and it was fubar all rest ar from uk sites at £40 to £45

nevermind im still geting it. on the pump idea still works out cheeper to get an L25 and a relay/switch in psu

SlaterSpeed? you sell blocks par chance? as in 2nd stage of system will need...

2 chip blocks (ati 9600/nforce2 amd) in 1/2 to run parralel after cpu i was thinking of makeing a basic desine but after seeing the skills in the block construct page i wud mutch like own some non production line blocks

tnx 4 your time

What kind of prices do you pay for a heater core + import duty slater?

I've been scouring car parts sites over here and they're charging about £35 for an Astra Heater Matrix I'd much prefer to import a decent sized US heater core and pay the shipping.

You americans really have got it good when it comes to water cooling on the cheap!

i have used nova cores and cavalier cores

both went in the front of a dragon bx full tower

first the un modded cav core

then verson 1 nova core before i changed the barb placement to right angles

the nova cost me a £10 and the cav £25

I have them both to spare as i replaced them with a thermochll 120.2

this is an old picture with the nova core in place

(EDIT) sorry but the pictures are held on an old account and i am still trying to fnd my backup

Best thing you can do is head over to here: http://store.over-clock.com/Generic.html and order one from them.

Personaly ive never imported a core myself. I normaly mod old vauxhall cores.

As far as the Vauxhall cores go the corsa and nova cores are then best. they will fit in a Cheiftec dragon with only a little modding of both core and case. IIRC the only differance between the corsa and nova is the shape of the tubes which does not relly matter as you have to cut them off to fit anyway. The Astra cores are slightly bigger but you can just about squeeze them into a cheiftech (i run 2x astra cores in my current project)

Never used a cavalier core myself. What are the dimensions? it looks to me like the same size as a astra but the tanks are a bit differant.

slater..

ps. heres some pics of the Astra cores in developement.

Thanks for the help mate, I'm still pondering whether or not to get an astra core and mount it at the front of my case, or get a dual heatercore and mount it externally on top of my case. Life is full of such taxing decisions

Heres some pics of my southbridge and mosfet blocks. Im currently working on some new northbridge designs. One is just a bigger version of the southbridge block for low restriction. The other is more complex with micro channels and such for better cooling but more restrictive. Work is on hold atm cous im waiting for some brass to be delivered

Not sure if they have them in the UK to, but in belgium i've also found Heatercores in older Ford models and the ford delivery-vans on the scrapyard

Just rince it out with some chemicals and you're good to go for little or no money

Yeh your right, there are some copper cores in older models of cars (ie. Theres a rather nice 2x 80mm fan sized core in a mk1 escort) The problem is they are so hard to find and eaven if you do find them they are expencive.

btw. thats a silverprop northbridge block
