Default Getting back into the water

Within the next month I'll be making some improvements to my new build.

Replacing my Ryzen 5 3600 six core, with a Ryzen 7 3700X 8 core, 16 thread beast. Doing this because my brother is in the process of building a new PC. My 3600 was $175 back in July 2020 and just a couple days ago was $320 on newegg. Complete horse shit, the state of the world right now is ruining parts prices. So, the 3700X comes in at $330. A bit rich for my blood, but my brother needs a CPU for his build. He'd have no use for that much HP, so the 3600 is perfect for him to game with and I'll get myself another two cores and four threads.

The performance of the Ryzen 3000 series has impressed me. I'd have gone with a 5600X but I'm not about to wait months and months.

Right now I'm using a CoolerMaster LiquidMaster ml240. This is a closed loop aka all-in-one cooler. Copper base with pump in block, paired to an ALUMINUM 240mm (2x 120mm) radiator. This cost me $80 in July and offers great cooling with low noise. Came with two RGB fans. This will likely be passed on to my brother, or possibly be put on my old rig (Q9650 @ 4 GHz).

New loop will be as follows:

Either a Swiftech Apogee GTZ or AquaExtreme MP-05
Coarsair Hydro X XR5 280mm (2x 140mm) https://www.performance-pcs.com/wate...031002-ww.html
Swiftech MCP50x Extreme DDC Pump https://www.performance-pcs.com/wate...mp-mcp50x.html

I'm really looking forward to seeing the performance to be had on this sub $150 loop. Stay tuned!

Here is my original build breakdown:

ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS AMD AM4

Western Digital WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 64-layer 3D NAND

Thermaltake Versa H18 Tempered Glass Black SPCC Micro ATX

CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) CMK16GX4M2D3600C18

AIGO AigoDIY aigo 12cm 120mm Computer PC Cooling Case Fan with LED Halo Ring

(2x of those. Top & rear exhaust fans)

COOLMOON Quiet Edition High Airflow Adjustable Colorful PC Case CPU Computer Cooling with Coolers, Radiators System (3pcs)

Arctic Silver 5 (3.5G Tube)

$885.52 at time of purchase (July 2020) Bought all from NewEgg.com

MSI GTX 1650 Super 4GB

$220 or something... at my local Best Buy. So about an $1,100 USD build. Not too shabby IMO for its 1 TB of 3 GIGABIT per second NVME, 4 TB media storage, 6 cores and 12 threads of 4 GHz power and 16 Gigs of DDR4 3600 MHz. Even with liquid cooling and a video card that runs FarCry 5 at Ultra 1080P about 68 - 82 FPS. Oh yea not to mention Liquid Koolin, and Full CustoCheeze RGB to boot!

Here are some pics of the initial build:

I removed the RGB fans from the front bezel. It gets old. At 30 bux for the three of em though, would be a great addition to a kids gaming PC, or anything you'd wanna throw the bling factor at. The RGB patters are quite impressive. Air flow kings they are NOT, but they are pretty much silent and the speed is fully adjustable. The three of em are sitting in my closet right now.

I need to find two 140 MM fans with good static pressure to use on my new 280 (2x140) radiator when that comes. The AIO shown above is a 240 (2x120).

So, the parts are in. We'll get into that very soon

For the time being I needed to come up with a somewhat elegant and reliable way to mount the water block of yesteryear on my new chip.

A google search got me the AM4 hole dimensions. Could have done the same for the s775 holes, but since my scanner was set up that seemed easier. Plus I'd have an overlay of where the block seats within the mount.

The yellow bits will become my adapter ears. If anyone else finds this useful I can upload it in full res for printing.

I'm going to be making the yellow bits with just a couple metal bars and a cordless drill. Maybe some grinding thrown in and paint so they look decent.

Long story short... an online order (AMAZON) got canceled because of some BS... and I didn't feel like waiting. This was for some more 1/2" G 1/4 fittings.

So what I had:
2x Apogee GTX 1/2"
2x Swiftech GPU 1/2" plastic
2x 3/8" (ish?)

Had to saw down the swiftech GPU fittings because they were extremely long... Anyways there is more to say, but for now, a successful leak test done:

Thanks Joe!

So, didn't end up finishing the off-set mounting for the apogee block. I made a pair of ears that would have worked fine out of some 1018 steel but decided to go another direction. Planned on making a new top for my aquaextreme MP-05 since it was a modern enough design. In the midst of all that though I figured, what the hell, and ordered a $35 block from amazon. Got it a couple days ago, and I'm very impressed. Going to post my results with that in the coming days. The fit and finish is insane for the money... we'll see if it needs lapping or anything, but first impression is more than good. Also ordered half a dozen matching 1/2" G 1/4 fittings in black and those are now here... so that means whenever I feel like it, I can slap this baby together!
