Socket mods ?

Joe
After cursing my brand name box I finally decided to jump in & picked up a used Asus AV7266 & Athlon 1.4. Also stuck a compunurse next to the die and got an Ipanel. Naturally my temps don't agree so I got a HardcanoII that I will try to calibrate & use to compare.
The point is, I read your article about modding the socket to add a temp probe to the bottom of the die. How far down can you go before you start hitting the contacts in the socket and does it matter if you do.
Does anyone know if the Athlon 1.4 has the on-die diode for temp and does the Asus AV7266 have one or the ability to read the on-chip diode temps?

You are running a Tbird if it is 1.4. You have no diode. Pick up a cheep XP (they are a dime a dozen) and then do your mod.

the XP 1600+ runs at 1400MHz by default, but since he called it an Athlon 1.4 i'm guessing its the T-Bird too.
