It's alive!!!...my board is ok.
The other day I was screwing around in my case, and I accidently bumped the wiring for my memory volt mod.
Anyway, there was a spark, the board shut down, and it wouldn't restart. My first thought was the Samsung was dead, but it checked out ok on my other board, along with the cpu, vid card, etc. I figured it had to be the regulator, or a mosfet that went south, so I ripped the board out, and pretty much had myself convinced a new board was my only choice. (8K3A was where I was looking...nice voltage options) So there I am, refiguring my budget inside out, getting depressed that I didn't have the cash for a new board...or to manage it, I was gonna be on bread and water for a few weeks. I decided to give it one last shot...and something told me to try the cmos. I swapped the chip from the good board, and the damn thing fired right up. Time to do the old hot-swap bios flash. |

You got LUCKY!!!!!!!
Nice idea on how to get the thing working again though. Just out of curiosity, how many boards do you have over then to "swap" CMOS chips from?

I've done the same with the old keyboard controller. Back then (a few years) they were very sensitive, and some mobos weren't designed to protect it if you unplugged the keyboard while it was on...
I've zapped a mobo with static electricity a few times, but never lost one. |

2 Iwill XP333's, 1 Asus A7V, 1 Asus CUL2C. I have an Epox 8kha+ too, but it's not the same chip.
(The Iwill's are revision 1.0, and 2.1) Well, I tried, but the cmos from the xp333 2.1(the one in my sig) won't take a flash. It's about 33% write errors after a flash (20+ tries)...it's toast. I tried the 2mb EEPROM's from the A7V, and the CUL2C as well, but they won't flash either without write errors??? Oh well, I'll steal the cmos from the revision 1 board. Hopefully it doesn't crap out. Funny thing though...right after I decided a new board (8k3a) wasn't financially possible, I landed a CASH job for today and tomorrow. Oh man, do I get the board, or a much needed GF4????????????????????????????????????????????? Last edited by Heavy_Equipment; 06-19-2002 at 09:24 PM. |

Well, recently my Visiontek MX400 died, my fault...always screw your cards in kids.
Now I'm back to my Geforce DDR, with serious injuries. (it has tearing and artifacts at default speeds...I pushed it too hard in the past) I've decided to get a new video card, and I think I'll go with a Siluro MX440. It's not a real GF4, but it's the best bang for the buck in my opinion. I'm gonna try something new this time...screw it in, and not OC it. |
