This is why silicone tubing sucks.

and

Silicone gets saturated w/ water wetter, and becomes pretty much opaque. Secondly, after it gets set into a shape, it will not become straight again.

I'm new to the WC scene (waiting for more money to buy rest of equipment) and am now probably going to get this stuff instead of silicone. However, do you recommend I pay the extra for thickwall? I still haven't decided between 3/8 and 1/2 ID if that makes a difference.

Read Una's info on tubing, he explains why 1/2" is better than 3/8". I really can't say if the thickwall is any better than this thinwall. This stuff seems to work perfectly fine for me. I do not worry about kinks, or leaks. Later today I will have more pictures up.

All of the new pictures will be right there on the main index. I have pictures of the case with light, and also with lights off so you can see the glow of my coolant through the tubing etc.

Tygon R-1000 is even more interesting since it has a Shore A hardness of only 40 which is close or even better than silicone. Tygon R-3603 has a hardness of 55.

Those specs are why I said check closely what formulation of the Tygon you use

Notice two things from the R-1000 specs:

Minimum recommended bend radius:
1/2" ID, 1/16" wall thickness - 2-7/8"
1/2" ID, 1/8" wall thickness -- 1-3/4"

Also notice the rated working pressures, 10 PSI for the thin wall, 15 PSI for thick wall. (Both above what say a Ehiem 1250 can supply, but for anyone with larger / more powerful pumps, pay attention to those numbers for the Tygon you choose).

Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm sold on the lab grade tygon (R-3603). The thin walled stuff looks good enough for me as 3/4" OD tubing gets too hard to handle.

Zoson, that silicone tubing looks cherry, lol!

Now, does a lower durometer rating meant he tubing is softer?

question about its texture... is it kind of klingy like vinyl is?
as in how ti sticks to the barbs.... the vinyl i use you cant just pull off, you have to start twisting it while pulling it cause of how it sticks to the barbs. Is this the same way tygons is?

i guess i should refer more to this as friction....

Blade - yes, lower Durometer rating means softer.

I'll just answer this for him, since I've already asked about that. It grips the barbs just as well as silicone, but it does not feel sticky to the touch, and cat hair and dirt don't stick to it like silicone. He said it feels alot like vinyl to the touch, only 10x softer.

I remember first getting my silicone and having all this hair and dirt sticking to it on both the inside and out, lol. But to be honest, it's kinda hard to imagine what tygon will be like since it sounds like a crossbreed. Can't wait till mine arives!

Better yet, go to Dtek Customs and buy it. He's got the thickwall for $2.65/ft right now. Danny's been telling me about this stuff for quite awhile, actually. He's been working on sourcing a good deal for it for the last several weeks. I've also asked him to get some of the thin wall too since that will be cheaper. I don't know how long that $2.65/ft deal will last. I'm pretty sure he told me it was going to be $2.99/ft. So try jumping on it soon. He expects to be able to ship it on Monday. He's only got about $50/ft right now, but if it sells well, he's got plans to order a few hundred feet of it.

Be very carefull the stuff Dtek sells is only 3/32 wall.
thats not the thickwall thats like medium. go to mcmaster.com and buy 50' of it and its only $2,65 a foot for the 1/8th wall

Yeah, but who the heck needs 50 feet of tubing in their water cooling system? I'd be surprised if I use even 5 feet.

Yeah, I could see ordering 50ft if you're going to sell. Me, I'm not. I'll order enough for me and that's it. And 3/32 is still 1 step thicker than what zoson used and he came out fine.

Ah well, some like it big and some think size doesn't matter. Myself, I'll go for the nice in-between size. Even though the stuff is clear, I don't want it obscuring the view of my waterblock either.

And, hey, it IS a good price. He's basically selling it at his cost I think.

lol, i'll measure up the silicone tubing in my system to see exactly how much i need, then i'll order (maybe). i dont think you really need 1/8 thick tubing anyways; its not like ive got ultra-sharp bends and whatnot...

USPlastics is less expensive

For example the 1/2" ID, 1/8" wall is $3.73 per foot for the R-1000 formulation (Shore A of 40, 10 PSI pressure) and $3.19 per foot for the medical grade they carry (S-50-HL, Shore A of 66, 36 PSI).
