HW Labs Black Ice Extreme...
There's alot of hype about this rad, but i want the truth, good or bad, pro's and con's.
Bottom line, is it worth it? Are there any alternatives with similiar features and specs...? |

If performance is your goal, then no, not really. If you want it for looks (the chrome BIX looks pretty damn nice), then go for it. It definately won't be a top performer but it can do an adequate job. Most decent heatercores will do a better job at cooling at a much lower price.

how about it compared to the big d-tek heatercore, which is better? and do you have some links to the BIX?

The D-Tek core is probably the best performing pre-equipped core you can buy specifically for PC water cooling. Just make sure you seal the barbs, mine sprung a leak... all over the bottom of my case.

And, if you bought an extra shroud for a push/pull effect, I would guess the results would be excellent.

I looked closely at the BIX's . IMO here are their strengths in order:
1. Size (nice and small) 2. Looks (color & chrome options) 3. Performance If your priorities are different than those you should prolly look at heater cores. Also notice whats missing from the list above-> Price. peace. unloaded |

I own a Chrome BIX and it looks the daddy! Interesting to note is that the barbs are 1/2" OD but 10.5 mm ID. Performance is apparently good enough to cool a dual CPU system (I haven't run mine yet, so I dunno). Sizewise it is easy to fit. Having said all that, the D-Tek coolercore will offer better performance.
My chrome BIX is going to have one of those aluminium Panaflo fans bolted on; I'm going to polish the fan first of course. I'll let you know how I get on.

The BIX size for size against a header core is DAMN good. the BIX has looks and size going for it, where most heater cores are much bigger and not nearly as pretty
I think for what they are, the BIX are pretty spiffy. But if you are looking for just cheap good cooling a heatercore is where you should go.
