Argh! Maze3 temps higher than my Maze1
Just put in a new maze3 - 3/8" with the socket hold down, getting 45-46c at full load. I was getting around 42-43c with my maze1 - 3/8". I tried increasing the pressure on the hold down but it didn't help. The block is sitting flat on the die as far as I can tell, not using a shim on the cpu. Only other thing that changed is that I switched cases from a mid tower to a full one so now the radiator is at the top as opposed to in front on the bottom. Could the decreased flow rate due to the height/tubing length cause the difference or maybe the block just needs to be lapped? Pump is a Eheim 1048 with a BI pro rad. Thanks for helping

I had a Maze3. (since traded) It was in serious need of lapping when I got it.

Is the rad fan blowing warm case air through it. Was it blowing case air through it before? The difference could add 3 or 4C to the temp. Is the water flowing from the center out? Are you sure the block isn't rubbing up against the socket ledge? Is there tension on the block hoses, possibly pulling it off center?

Both cases were ducting cool air from outside the case. The water is going from pump -> rad -> wb -> pump, the water is flowing into the center channel. AFAIK the hoses aren't pulling at all on the block either. I'm assuming at this point this is probably just a lapping problem, very annoying that a brand new block wouldn't come flat

Almost everyone I know that own the Maze 3 has lapped them to get the desired performance.

you should definetely try remounting the block a couple of times, just to make sure u didn't get that 1 in 10 dud mounts. the block might not be alot better. but it just can't be worse than a maze 1.
the increased tubing shouldn't be too big a problem for the 1048...

You have probably tried this already but rotate the block 180 degrees to make sure that a corner of the block is not resting on the ZIP socket lip. Also make sure that the water flow going into the Maze 3 is going in through the center bard and not on the outer barb.
Just stating the obvious possiblilities One last idea... you mentioned that you radiator is in the top of your case and that you have your system setup pump->rad->wb->pump. Try switching the Maze3 round with the radtior so it goes like this pump->WB->Rad->pump I have a very similar setup where my radiator is at the top of my case and I have my system setup with the waterblock before the radiator and it works great for me. Couldnt hurt... Some pics of you setup would probably help us with diagnosing your problems also (if possible)
