Default Tower vs. Traditional Heat Sink

Does anyone know if the Tower style heatsinks are more effcient at removing heat than the traditional heat sinks?

It seems that the traditional heat sinks would work better because of the higher amount of contact area of the fins with the base, rather than having the fins cool down some copper tubing connected to the base.

you get what you get.

Depends on application size etc. Towers should be an incy wincy bit better with a fan, normal better convective.

Well comparing a really large aftermarket copper heatsink and a 6 pipe tower cooler, which one would be better and also assuming you use the same size fans?

similar to your other question look on the web for reviews and see which is the best.
thermal right xp 120 and scythe ninja come to mind as high end coolers.

www.silentpcreview.com do very good heatsink reviews.

If you have the room and your case airflow is accomodating, towers work very well, in part because they allow much higher fin surface area and more heatpipes to remove heat from the CPU to disappate via the fins.
