the skoal can lids are $15 plus shipping
round keychains 1.5 OD are $8 plus shipping

for the portraits the price seems to be high, because of the time spent in autocad. Takes about an hour to an hour and a half to draw a face in autocad. But I have done them for as little as $70, I would need a good clean pic to scan

Is there some kind of finish (clearcoat) on those portraits? Even at $70, I'm still interested.

I just use black spray paint, I sand blast the a,uminum to give the paint something to stick to. Then just clear coat it with clear spray paint. They look really nice in a wooden pic frame. With glass over it to protect it.

Now the one on the a1machine website, The one with the lady with big hair, that was done on acrylic, I sandblasted the back and painted it. Then drew the image and reversed it. and machined it backwards on the back of the acrylic where the paint was. That way you can stick it into a frame with a soft light behind it and it shows up really nice. Because the engraving is clear. Colored paper behind it works good too.

Nice work on those portraits, which program did you use for vectorsiation of bitmap?

I wish I could have used a program to vector those pics, I used Autocad and good old lines and arcs, IE I drew them. No vectoring involved, that is why it takes a couple of hours. I manually placed every sigle line and arc in the picture. Try doing that!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then saved them as DXF files and used a CAM program to generate the G code.

MY MAD autocad skills!!!!!!! its funny though cause I can do the protrates all day long, but I have no idea how to draw a 1 in square. and have it be 1 inch. Isnt that funny?

geee, people, you are realllllllyyyyyyy NUTS !!!! This g-spot-code seems more and more interesting. I hope I'll join the club one day.

Just wandering, what happenes if the endmill bit breaks in the middle of the CNC process? Do you have to reprogram it and start all over or replace the bit and erase already done part of the code, position the bit and push the GO button?

I'd give photoshop a shot:
use one of the weird filters (like "embossed"), extract the lines into a b/w image, smooth, run it through a "vectorizer", clean it up in CAD, and that should do it.

Usually , just this part. Depends on what kind of damage the breaking cutter did to the workpiece.

This is a must-have program for guys like you ChrioN: http://www.cncsimulator.com/
The milling part is very good, well I only had it for like 1 hour - but it will cover your skills for sure (no offence)
I only tried G0 G1 G2/3 and the basic stuff, works fine

Default lol?

LOL

You mean 1337

Very easy to use, you can purchase a cam-addon (but who wants to PAY for software ??)

I still make a G2/G3 mistake now and then, its better in the simulator than in the machine !

Do you guys really think I can do precisionjobs on the green mill?
I need the final word...I have a feeling that its a bit of loose on the axis where the endmills are....hmm....even if it can't do 0.1mm jobs, is it a good machine for the bucks anyway?

That looks like a good sturdy mill. If the ways are a bit loose, I would check to see if it has any GIB adjustments. That will normally take out any play in the table. You can always convert it to a NC machine. And have the X and Y table on cnc and control the Z manually. You wil only be able to run single depth runs. But hey, U plundge the endmill into the desired depths and push go, then the machine takes over and stops when it is time to plundge again. Just a thought.

well, so i guess its like turning back a time a bit for you guys.
Ok. anyway here is another tip about sending heavy staff to europe for those living in Chicago area:

If you go to Polish part of the city (Belmont ave and Pulaski Ave) you will find one or two shipping places. They charge about 50-60 cents per pound which is pretty cheap if you compare to elsewhere.
