Default Testing WC for leaks

I'm about ready to set up my WC system and prepare it for leak test. I have an MCP600. It DC so it has to be plugged into the motherboard. I DO NOT want to do the wire tricks because i don't want it getting messed up. So do i attach the psu to the mobo with the chip and heatsink on it or can i have the power plugged in to the mobo with no chip in it?

You'd be better off going to your local electronics store and getting a 12V wall wart rated at better than 750mA (which is what the MCP600 nominally draws at 12V). Then hack it or use connectors. Don't go futzing with your motherboard just to get 12V.

You can get a 4 pin molex to 3 pin fan plug at compussr, then do the motherboard plug short trick to get the PS to run without the motherboard.
