Heatsink/ Heat Pipe / ThermoSiphon Cooling The cat will only make the mistake of putting its paw by your HSF once. :) Also the place to discuss the new high end heat pipe goodness.

Default Big Duct for HSF

Hi all!
I just had a thought. In an effort to reduce the HSF's weight, what if the fan were taken off and replaced with a duct which connects to a blowhole with a 120mm fan at the top of the case. Does this seem like a good/bad idea?

This what you're talking about?

I'd post that image, but it's 1200x1024. And I don't know how to shrink images with vB code or whatever that stuff is.....

not quite, but very similar. I was thinking that the duct should be physically attached to the heat sink (probably using screws to hold the duct down to the heat sink), and the duct would probably be flexible like dryer vent ducts.

thats exactly how I have mine setup. except a 120mm at one end and a 80mm inserted at the other about 1" away from heatsink. didn't do it for weight but to cool better.
