New disks in a SNAP 2000 -sucess!
I've been following the threads on this for a while as I have several of these which have 20 Gb (2x10) drives and are fairly useless today.
These are the odd shaped two drive SNAPs in the rounded plastic cases which split along the seam. They are about 4 years old - maybe 5 - and have the OS in firmware and no on the disks. Good news! Typical info values would be: Model Software Hardware Server # BIOS 2000 series 4.0.830 (UK) 2.0.0 38230 2.0.252 The version 4.0 OS is part of the upgrade process - read on! The drives can be set as a single spanned drive, mirrored or two drives. A single span seems the most common. Before the u/g the 2000 had version 3.x OS and had a single failed HD and so a broken mirror. Here's what to do: 1) remove both drives. 2) Insert a new 137Gb or less drive. 3) Power up . and if you are lucky it will auto format. If not, you'll need to go to the debug menu & 'init' it. That's it! Note that you need to set the HD to 'cable select'. If you use a disk larger than 137Gb - say 300 Gb, then only 137 Gb is seen. But wait - it gets better! Upgrade the OS to version 4 and 48bit addressing becomes possible, which supports big disks. Now try it with a 300 or 400 Gb disk - you may need to do: Debug / "ide 48bitLBACounter reset" / "ide 48bitLBACounter get" result "0" Debug / reinit but then it 'sees' all 300Gb. Try it with 2 disks - and span them - even better! ------------------------------ 11/09/2004 11:00:01 Command: info version Product: 0 - "Minnie: 2 drive IDE" - Platform Bytes "2.0.0" Server-4.0.830, Build Date: Dec 24 2003 19:04:13 This is the NON-Debug executable, and was built by KEVIN You are logged in as user ROOT (local) ------------ Command executed without error. 11/09/2004 10:58:13 Command: info devices Logical Device: 10006 Position: 0 JBOD Size (KB): 32296 Free (KB): 32128 Private Mounted Label:Private Contains system files only Unique Id: 0x6479BD7A0951EE34 Mount: /priv Index: 12 Order: 0 Partition: 10006 Physical: 10007 FS Size (KB): 32768 Starting Blk: 515 Private Physical: 10007 Drive Slot: 0 IDE Size (KB): 292969984 Fixed Logical Device: 10016 Position: 0 JBOD Size (KB): 32296 Free (KB): 31640 Private Mounted Label:Private Contains system files only Unique Id: 0x1EDD53BD0761F9A3 Mount: /pri2 Index: 13 Order: 1 Partition: 10016 Physical: 10017 FS Size (KB): 32768 Starting Blk: 515 Private Physical: 10017 Drive Slot: 2 IDE Size (KB): 292969984 Fixed Logical Device: 40000 Position: 1 SPAN Size (KB): 574835096 Free (KB): 574243072 Public Mounted Label:Stripe Large disk Unique Id: 0x7FFBE20810DB49D6 Mount: /0 Index: 0 Order: 2 Partition: 10000 Physical: 10007 S 40000 Size (KB): 291402200 Starting Blk: 195845 Public Physical: 10007 Drive Slot: 0 IDE Size (KB): 292969984 Fixed Partition: 10010 Physical: 10017 S 40000 Size (KB): 291402200 Starting Blk: 195845 Public Physical: 10017 Drive Slot: 2 IDE Size (KB): 292969984 Fixed ------------ Command executed without error. ----------------------------------------------- Enjoy!
