I have a DD z-chip block, sitting right here next to me. If you need some dimensions, let me know: I'd be more than happy to strip it apart for you

ben, could you take a z block from dd and drill some dimplets in it to increase performace?? or would it decrease performace??
i think dimplets = turbulance therefore better performance where i am mistaken?

first off alot of things come into play when you go for high speed/lower voltages..
yes a 60w or maybe even 40w tec could cool a reg. NB, but then you have the NF2 chipset which IM on.. the thing at 2v VDD and high DC fsb can roast an egg with the stock cooling. after strait h20 cooling the NB voltage still needed to be the same to run the fsb in DC mode same as stock. so I added a 12v 80w pelt at 7v and got temps around 5-10c and voltage needed for max oc dropped some from 2.05v to 1.95v, but I still wasn't happy so I ran the tec at 13v and was able to run the voltage at only 1.73v thus lowering overall temp's even more at load. Im now at -13c load and thats amazing.. I can't really say how I did the pelt setup yet as I have someone looking over the way i did it for maybe a new NB retail block. |

Hey bigben2k i would appreciate it if you could get mt the dimentions of the DD Z block! . Hey it looks like the MOBO_chipset_10mm_TURB_CUCU could work for a pelt? I'd love to get my hands on Puzdree's NB block . It could be fitted with a cold plate.

The copper base of the block is 44mm by 38mm. You wouldn't be able to fit a 40x40 pelt, but if you get one that's 30 by 30, it'll fit nicely.
Do you want more dimensions? |

If it's any help, the holes in the block (to hold the top) are threaded right through, so you can bolt your spacer/coldplate using those.

I use the z-block with a 40x40 pelt and it works awsome. Ill try and grab some pic's to show you how I did it.. with coldplate and without modding the block at all..

hey thanks qwerty, i admit it would be much easier to use a 40mm x 40mm pelt. I look forward to your pics!

OK with moddig i would most likely use this pelt. HP-127-1.0-0.8. It is a 30mm x 30mm pelt, consumes 56w, and would hit its "sweet spot" at about 12v.

well my pelt 80w at 12.4v with 7c chilled h20 get load temp's like Isaid at -10 to -13c with room temp h20 around freezing 0c to 2c so im sure you can get the 56w with 20c ambeit temps to about 10c on a NF2 mobo. I suspect about 20-30w of heat at 2v vdd on the nf2.. I would still go for a 80w tec for extreme situations, but you installing this on whaT MOBO?? intel or AMD??

This would go on an Intel mobo, 845 chipset. The 80w pelt would be prefered then to get temps around freezing, which is why id do this in the first place. The colder the better !

well im in florida also, so if your ambeint temps are lower then the colder you temp's will run... rememebr you can drop 20c just from going from say 24c h20 temps to chilled 5c temp's also does the intel NB run hot?? Never owned an intel

Im in florida too, orlando. I'm not sure if it gets hot or not, the heatsink does come with a fan. I will try to remove the fan and see if i can feel some warmth in a second.

Yea it does put off some heat. I did feel a noticable warmth even after it took the fan off for a sec. I am not sure exactly how warm it is thoe.

SparkedFire:
I have a 36W (30mmX30mm I think) pelt that is just collecting dust over here. I would be willing to donate it to the cause if you want I used it for a while when I tried to pelt cool my own NB (VIA KT133A) I had some decent success but it was overshadowed by the fact that I fired 2 motherboards in the process. (I was careless with condensation prohibitors). My advise would be to make sure that you have very good insulation on both the front and the back of the MB (treat it like you are freezing your CPU!) and have a very good water flowrate through the block that will be cooling the pelt. PM me know if you are interested.

Hey thanks, jtroutma I sent you a PM.
Hey qwerty57, were you able to get some pics? I think i know how you did it. Did you attach "ledges" to the side of the NB block, and attach a cold plate to that? Confused?
