Default Measuring temps w/ and w/o IHS

When comparing temperatures with and without the IHS on an Athlon 64 or Opteron, what alternatives of measurement is there?

One could of course compare the max overclock and the temperature the BIOS/MBM5 reports, but do you have any other or better ideas?

Only thing better I can think of is making a diode reader like pH did. It hacks into the on die probe and reads it through a much more accurate interface.

I wouldn't recommend it as a long term solution. Durability is not that great for the wiring and the A64s rip out of the socket all the time after making the necessary cuts . Very stressful
