Heatsink/ Heat Pipe / ThermoSiphon Cooling The cat will only make the mistake of putting its paw by your HSF once. :) Also the place to discuss the new high end heat pipe goodness.

Default Lap NB or not?

I am planning on putting an old speeze CPU heatsink (w/ NO fan) on my ABIT NF7-S REV2.0's north bridge. I also plan on vdd modding it at least a little bit in the future. Many people lap their NB 'cause it's so "unflat". I'm thinking about doing it but I dunno if it's worth the risk. I don't care that it would not let me RMA, I just would like to know if there will be any noticable difference in overclocking/longevity of the board (cooler is better). What do you think should I do it? I would be willing to do it if it would add 2mhz to my max stable FSB, or keep the northbridge 5-10C cooler.

Hmm.... Give me your thoughts! Please.

My only question is how you would lap the NB. You would have to get a small piece of glass, and rub that on the NB, rather than vice versa. I wonder how flat you could actually get it doing that. Just something to think about. If you do go ahead and do this, post some images and how you did it though!

For anyone who's interested, there's the link that has the instructions to do it. I guess I might as well do it... just to say I have done it... and it should improve cooling some what. I think just as long as I mask off the whole area good, and make sure no loose particles are left on the mobo to cause a short, and don't push to hard on the NB I should be fine.

if your nb is the crush 18d northbridge, forget it. that thing has a plastic packaging, and since your board is rev 2.0, I'm guessing thats what it has.
