'The Beast II'
Copied and pasted... too tired but thought you'd enjoy!
Well, I have been very busy the last week or so. I decided to build another system, based on the old system, those not familiar with the old, see HERE. Anyway, I don't have much commentary yet... you can see a build log HERE. The Clamshell top has 3 windows, and 2 fans on the top. I have not even dealt with that yet, that will happen tomorrow or this weekend. Parts: Thermochill 120.3 Various fans - 6 Sanyo Denki 120mm's on the rad - Panaflo and Mechatronics round out the fannage. Cascade SS 3 Laing D4's/Swiftech MCP650 in series Tygon R-1000 Tubing, the softest, stickiest most bendable tubing I have ever used, blows R-3603 away IMO, but more $$$$ Mountain Mods U2 UFO Powdercoated Black Various other stuff I can't even remember, lol. Now for some pics:

Whoa! Pretty. But, it looks incredibly noisy. Is it? I bet the water temps are very good.

Brian it is not as noisy as one would think...
AnitBling, yes, to cool one processor but to add a Vid in the future. I dont need 3 pumps I just need overkill. I considered 4, lol.

an interesting ad hoc pressure indicator is a piece of 10psi silicone tubing
when you over-pressurize it, it gets fat - the amount depending on the pressure kinda scary when the 1/2" tube is 6" in dia and like a drum head though |

now thats some serious damn pressure. ive seen an air hose get parked on, thing was supposed to have a shutoff but i guess it was faulty. got fat for a few seconds and then blew one end off sending it flying into a customers car.
edit: btw just got my laing d4, been testing and bleeding. how bad do yours hum nik? is the swifty labeled one quieter? mine is a 7/04 d4 so i thought it was a muffled newer one. im super sensitive to higher noises though. |

I doubt you can kill it, make a lined box with baffles - won't go around corners too well if dampened

hehe, well, considering the recent euro vs american fiasco, I can't help but see the irony in your system
it epitomises (I suppose) the stereotypical american system, while (I think) it also epitomises the perfect example for why a typical euro system is maybe more desirable for many. but to each his own of course |

snowie
a single component's noise charateristics do probably not define the differences between types of systems |

I think snowwie meant the combination of 3 D4s and 14 (!) case/rad fans

Yes big iron, I am a fan can't you tell? There is no substitute for brute strength. '70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 ring any bells? I actually owned one in 1990, bought it for $8000, should have never sold it. Oh, right, this is a cooling forum My approach, as was my last setup, is definately exteme and that is how it was planned to be. King Kong of H20.

What was the purpose of that Ferm? Is it to show how good of temps you got with small tubing and low air flow? That's pretty damn good.
I just got the D4s dated 07/04, and while lower than the original D4, the sound is still loud. So loud, I'm planning to build some kind of box for it to silence it since the performance is so good and I'd rather keep it. |
