Default Thinking of trying pelts...

I thinking of trying to PeltCool my system. Currently I have
Asus P4B533-E
Intel 2.66 oc 3.1
Radeon 9700Pro

Parallel Dual Loop water cooled with 2 x ViaAqua 1300, 2 x BIX rad, DD Maze 3 and DD GeForce4 blocks.

I was thinking of an 80w for the GPU and around 170w for the CPU. The problem I have is that neither of my blocks are made for pelts. I would need cold plates between the GPU/CPU and the pelts.

How do I attached the pelt to the blocks?

For the CPU, the Maze 3 is 76x54mm. If I made the bottom cold plate the same size, can I tap holds into the maze 3 to hold it tight? Would 4 holes be enough?

For the GPU, it is 41 x 41mm. An 80w pelt is 40 x 40mm. It would seem that I cannot use the same trick here. Could I clamp glue, using AS expxy, a 50x50mm cold plate to the bottom of the GF4 block. Then use another 50x50 mm bottom cold plate screwed into the top one?

I know that a lot of pressure on the pelt is necessary for it to work well.

Gluing won't work: it won't hold the clamping pressure.

CPU: use an oversized cold plate (to exceed the CPU size), then tap into the block at the corners.

GPU: maybe you could find a smaller pelt? Otherwise, you could make your own clamp to fit over the GPU block.

Ok for the CPU. I would tap 4 small screw holes thru the cold plate into the corner of the block. This will allow me to use a 50x50mm peltier.

For the GPU....
I could use 2 50x50mm cold plates. The first plate would have hold tapped in the DD GF4 block. The second could tap into the first out side the 40x40mm peltier. Something like this....

Its been awhile since i've seen anyone use a hot plate for the peltier to waterblock junction.

Yes, I know mfpmax

But, does anyone think this will work or will it be dangerous. I do not feel like buying a new block. Anyway, I don't think there is another 50x50mm block that handles pelts for a GPU other than the Swifttech MCW50. But it can only handle 3/8"ID tubing. I want (and have) 1/2" ID.. 3/4" Tygon tubing.

Will the screws that hold the top plate to the block hamper the pelt in any serious way, since they will be in contact with it?

The theory should work because its been done before.

As for the screws...as long as careful planing is taken, there should be no interference.
