Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
At least you have a working snap that allways makes it eaiser.
DD is whats used and is proably the best unless you know how to use winhex. The wiki has step by step instruction for all options you need. Just follow them closely, other wise you will damage your working drive.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Im having trouble mounting the drive in DD?
Im trying to follow the instructions, which doesnt mention mounting a drive. IVe gone into network settings and i cant assign the PC an IP address. i do have dhcp on in the router, but even setting a static address doesnt seem to do anything. Ive got to opening a terminal window and thats it. since im a linux newbie, could anyone shed any light on this? |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Are you using Knoppix or The Live CD of DD?
If you are doing a HD to HD you do not need to mount the drives. If you type "dmesg | grep hd" after you have been made su you should get a listing of HD on your pc. Verfy that the setup matches the instructions. If you failed to set the jumper correctly it will not work. Re boot and look at the bios info of connected drives, if not correct power down and make the corrections. DO NOT DO ANY DD COMANDS TILL EVERYTHING IS CORRECT OR YOU MAY LOOSE YOUR WORKING DRIVE.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
o dear i think ive just realised what ive done wrong.
The drives are set as master/slave still plugged into the snap board itself, and not on my PC. i think thats where ive gone wrong. It doesnt actually say in the guide to move the snap disk into the PC Im using the live CD of DD. So i setup the master/slave in my PC. Boot from the CD.. And pursue to do a clone HD to HD? Im still not sure about the opening a terminal window? /hides |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
The terminal window is the icon along the bottom if I recall. And yes it does need to be done on a pc. Removes your existing HD's for safe keeping unless you need to write the image to it.
I recommend setting up the drives as the instructions state. Also watch the BIOS post to make sure the drives are set to M/S correctly.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
just wanted to say a big thank you for your help.
I switched to using knoppix which made things a bit more clear trying to follow the instructions. I think the step by step instructions should indicate they are more aimed towards that route. i took out a 40gb hard disk and replaced it with the only disk i had laying around, which was 120gb. Does anyone know the current limit with the 3.4.803 software? |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Hello and Greetings:
Does anybody know the file size limitation for the Snap Server XFS? i.e. largest file size. On mine it always seems to be 2GBs. Was this ever fixed with updating the Snap's OS? Thanks, bitor Snap Server 1000v2 OS 3.4.805 |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Ok D. Thanks for the info. I guess I'm stuck with 2GB file size then on my Snap Server 1000v2. Too bad. I thought an OS update on my snap would maybe fix it. I guess not. Darn it!!
Sincerely, bitor |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Can you connect to the snap? or admn?
With the disk on all the time it is prroably formating the HD, connect to the admin page and check.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Hey D:
I plugged in the LAN line and now this is what I have. System= two quick flashes Link=on all the time Net= no light on Disk= on all the time I agree it acts like it is formating the disk , but falls short because I can never get access via browser or assist. Do you know why? Do you think I should maybe change the jumper on the HD from Master to CS? Do I need to zero out the HD? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance, Sincerely, bitor |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
No NET, may indicate that the OS is not loaded. Does the LED's on the router show a connection? When you copied the OS from you original HD, did you forget to the "k" in "dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=1024k count=25"?
If the drive is not clean you need to do a Quick 0.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Hey D:
Yeah, I did a priatice run with a 20GB HD and it worked fine. I used the commands that you listed below as well. The LED's on the switch are on. I'll do a Quick 0 on the HD and start over again. Doesn't make sence if I can do it on my 20GB HD why can I not do this on my 120GB HD? Thanks in advance, Sincerely, bitor "No NET, may indicate that the OS is not loaded. Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Make sure you reset the drive settings back to master before installing the drive. Some 1100 like CS or single drive/Master. If one does not work try the othes.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Hey D:
I'm a little confused here. You asked me if I used this "dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=1024k count=25"?" On Wiki it says this "dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=1024 count=25000" I used this "dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=1024k count=25000" Which one should I use. This is very confusing. This maybe the reason why this is not working for me. Don't know , but I thought I'd ask you. Thanks in advance, Sincerely, bitor |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
use this one "dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=1024k count=25"
the wiki is the same value 1024k * 25 = 1024 * 25000 The 1024k x 25000 is 25gig not the 25 meg like the ones above.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Hey D:
Thanks. I just figured out what might be the problem with my 120GB HD. It's an ATA 133. I believe that is why it's not working. Darn it. You would think it would be backwards compatable with my snap1000v2 , but I guess not. I even tried to do an 3.4.805 image on it and no luck. I tried all the jumper settings for the HD as well. No luck, oh well. Thanks again for all your help D. Sincerely, bitor |

Hello:
I have a question or two. 1.) Does the sup file have any BIOS updates/upgrades it might be able to perform? 2.) If so then how would I update/upgrade the BIOS via sup file. Thanks in advance for your help, Sincerely, bitor |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
The only Snap that had a BIOS update was the V1 2000 made by Meridian. It was needed for v2 OS could be installed.
THERE ARE NO BIOS UPDATES FOR ANY OTHER SNAPS, to my knowledge.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
I have sucessfully recovered from a 1000 be changed to a 2000 model (bios change) and locking it up with the 1 x 2 led pattern. It's only taken me 1+ yrs to find a solution. It is easy to recover if you have the right hardware. I just happen to stumble in to the solution.
