a64 water cooling

I've been away a while. Life seems to get in the way. But, I just ordered my a64 setup (should get here today!!!!). a64 3200+, chaintech znf3-150. I got the chaintech because it still has the 4 mounting holes around the cpu socket. I want to watercool this bad boy. This is the stuff I have: maze3, BI Extreme, Danner Mag5, 1/2 in all the way around. Has anybody actually tried doing this? I searched around the forum but no one seems to have actually tried it.

I guess I have a few questions:

Has anyone tried it yet?

I read somewhere that it requires 75lbs of pressure on the IHS. Can you get that with the screws in the mounting holes? I don't think I have the balls to try to remove the IHS from my $400 proc just yet.

Any suggestions, opinions are appreciated.

congrats with the pre christmas goodies

myself, i'm also very interested to see what watercooling can bring to the a64 3200+. personally i'm holding out till i get some confirmation on multi adjustments on the a64. i have a gut feeling this proc can do a whole lot more than just being stuck at 215FSB because of no multi adjustment. on aircooling that doesn't seem to matter too much because once over 2200MHz you will probably start generating too much heat anyway.

the cooling props you got will probably be enough to do some extra oc'ing than with air, although it wouldn't be too much (biX is a little small for my likes).

i can answer one question with pure logic. if some retaining device is mounted through the 4 holes to generate 75lbs, then screwing your cooler right on the holes will most certainly be able to do the same if not more. i know most retaining devices are screwed on a rectangular plate at the backside of the mobo, but i don't see why you wouldn't be able to use that same plate to divide the pressure some.

Swiftech has a 'stock' solution using two 30# springs (with limiters)
works fine

Cool. Thanks for the replies guys. I can't wait till the UPS guy shows up. It'll probably take a couple of days to get everything set up but I will let you know how it goes.

Any advice on this one would be appreciated.

advice will be hard to give, lets turn it around, i think you will be the one giving the advice in a couple of weeks.

if somehow you find a way to adjust the multi, let us know m8. i think this is something too much in the shade at review sites. when reviewing a mobo they've got 8 pg's babbeling about all features, but the most important one for me only takes one line.

Good point. I will let you know if I can get the multiplier changed. As far as I can tell, its not there. Maybe need a bios update or something. I will be back after I get the stuff. Says it left the UPS facility this morning, but I haven't seen it yet...
