I'd bring down your fill tube, so that you can have it sticking out the side, then flip the whole computer on that side. Run the pump intermittantly.

Bigben2K: I dont know about you but I am not all that thrilled about draining a cooling system by running the pump dry. Probably will not hurt it but who knows, even for those types of pumps.

My recomendation:

Try tilting your case slightly so you can move your pump as much out of your case as possible and release the line going into your pump at the very bottom. That should get almost all the water out.

Either way, once you get your rig drained, put some kind of a valve at the lowest point of you system so you just have to put a hose on it and open the valve for draining. MUCH easier than what you are up against right now

Good luck though

One last idea:

Turn the whole case up-side down and drain it from your refill hose. At least that way you won't have any left over water sitting in your radiator.

Just a though....

I put a T fitting on the inlet on my pump, so that the back end of the T goes into the pump, the top of the T goes to a hosbarb fittings, and the front of the T goes to a 1/2" ball valve with a fitting on the end. I run a tube from this fitting to a container to catch the coolant, then open up the ball valve.

This only works well if your pump is the lowest point in your system, however. And it also adds some bulk to your system, which most of us cant afford. This is why the main components of my w/c gear are housed in their own enclosure.

As always, your milage may vary.

The Eheim 1250 can be run without fluid for quite some time, but that's not the point. Turning on the pump for say, 5 seconds at a time will not hurt it, plus the pump isn't dry, it's still wet, even though it's not completely filled with water.

The idea is to make sure that all the fluid circulates out (which may not even be necessary).

A "T" would probably be very good, like at the pump intake, pointing down, then set up a valve, drill a hole at the bottom of the case, and install an outlet. That way, you can very easily drain the system, without tilting it.

Thats an awsome idea.If your pump is at the lowest point in your case you can just flip the valve drain it and thats it. Very slick

I agree with the idea of tilting the case, moving the pump sideways a bit and pulling the hose off, it will get rid of most of the water,
