Default I'm new... help me please?

Hey.

I tried searching, but nothing is as specific as I have liked. So please don't flame a n00b right here!

I want to get into Watercooling. Why? I love tinkering with stuff, and I want noise and performance cooling.

My friend recommended a kit for me. He says the Swiftech kits aren't bad for the n00b beginner.

I was thinking, a single 80mm radiator wouldn't really be powerful enough, and I can imagine the fan has gotta be pretty loud to move enough air.

A lot of other people say, put together my own. Okay, but I don't know where to order from. I'm in Canada, and would rather spend as little as possible.

I want the best compromise between noise and performance and price.

The only two pumps I have available to buy is the Swiftech MCP600 and Hydor L30 II.

I don't need NB cooling, I don't plan on pushing my FSB too far... and GPU maybe later, I don't intend to overclock this videocard, cos I bought it for a friend, and I'm just "using" it for her till I put together the rest of her computer.

I have a few waterblocks to choose from:

Swiftech MCW5002-A-02 and MCW5000-A-02
D-Tek Spir@l
D-Tek TC-4 Poly Topped
Danger Den Maze4 SHD

What else? Tubing ... where to get? Home Depot? Or get specific tubing .. CLEARFLEX 1/2" ID Flexible Tubing? or just 1/2" OD Premium Vinyl Tubing?

I don't know about the fittings, there are hose clamps, hose barb adapters, elbows, etc etc. I have no idea where they go or what they do?

Radiator? I hear it's better to go to a garage and pick up a small heatercore instead of buying the expensive radiators? I'll put two 120mm Panaflos it'll be quiet(er)....

Am I missing something? Fill & Bleed Assembly? Or a Reservoir? It'd be cool to have a 7-10gal fish tank as a reservoir, but that's bulky

I bought the Swiftech MCP600 and am quite happy with it..
plugs into the powersupply, low wattage, won't dump to much heat into the water. I'm from Canada as well and was wondering where you bought it from... I had to order mine from US.

I got the White Water my self from www.cooltechnica.com
I couldn't find it in Canada anywhere.

I have heard(read) to stay away from Vinyl. it will go brittle and crack over time...
don't want a leak there, I bought some clearflex myself. there is this new stuff called PrimoFlex Tubing
I might buy that for my next case.

the best hose clams are from home depo. 68¢ each. work real well...

I myself bought a BIX but only because of space... find out how big you can go.
if you can get one large enough to fit 2 120mm Panaflos great.. you can under volt them for a quieter machine.

Having a bigger reservoir won't make it better for cooling... mine holds about 400ml little under 2 cups.. and it works fine. takes a ltiel bit longer to purge out the air because some of it keeps getting sucked back into the loop. if i had room for a larger one i'd would have done so...
some canadian links for parts
Vibe Computers
New Type Computers
Voyeur Mods
Criticool
more but don't have time to list them all...
List of Online Stores Here but not all water cooling based

Hope this helps

Wow! Thanks for the extensive reply.

The links you gave me, are they all Canadian? Or they just ship to Canada?

Voyeur Mods doesn't seem like it's from Canada...

Wow, New Type computer prices are much lower than bigfoot! Maybe I'll just order the kit from there... hmm...

Can I use a vodka bottle for the reservoir? That'd be net...

Wow, that's so neat! I want to do that

Wait, so my friend tells me "bleeding" is much faster with a reservoir... I don't even know how to set it up, let alone know how to go about "bleeding" and etc.

I should use a car heatercore, right? It's cheaper and bigger than the stuff you can get built for watercooling? What's a BIX?

If I make my own reservoir like that UnloadeD guy... I don't need that Swiftech FBK525 fill & bleed assembly. Eh?

Hmm...

//edit: Alright. This is what I'm thinking of right now:

Swiftech MCW5002A CPU Water Block for AMD $75.00
Swiftech MCP600 12 Volts Industrial Pump $99.00
CLEARFLEX 1/2" ID Flexible Tubing - PER FOOT $2.49x12=$36
Swiftech Power Relay Switch Kit $14.50
Home Depot Hose Clamps $1x?
AD 1/2" Stem to 1/2" ID Hose Barb Adapter - Swiftech $5x?
Radiator $?
2xPanaflos 120mm ~$50
Empty Vodka Bottle... .$?

Am I missing something? What are the barbs for? Sticking in the vodka bottle for the reservoir? Anything else? How about the Hose Clamps? Where do they go?

Thanks

If I were you, I would check out www.criticool.com for some of the stuff you got on there. They are based in Canada, and their Clearflex60 tubing is only 1.25 a foot. I ordered it from there a little while ago and I would have to say it was a good purchase. Just check them out before you go out and spend twice as much on it from another place.

Alright cool. I totally forgot about that place, though it was mentioned before. I will double check all the prices.

I want to go with the Swiftech MCW5002A waterblock, or is the Silverprop Cyclone or any other better for the price? I want to stay with the Swiftech Pump, so I guess the Swiftech would be better, eh?

Anyone wanna answer the questions about the barbs and hose clamps and etc? Thanks!

Barbs are indeed for the bottle, and the clamps are for attaching the tubing to the barbs.

Hm. The guy used a diamond bit dremel to drill the holes in the absolut bottle. I want to use 1/2" ID tubing, how big should the barbs be? Are those barbs okay?

Eeesshh... I don't like doing that!

How about radiators? I don't want to spend too much on it, and I can't fit 2x120mm. Should I just get single 120mm one?

How do people put them in cases? I wont be able to fit it in my Minitower, what should I do? Get another one? I'm not a big fan of ripping apart the case, so what's the best option?

Hm... I want the Vodka Bottle be outside though...

I've always been fond of the "external enclosure" look. Put the rad on top of the case, lengthwise (longest dimension parallel to the case's longest side). The average case is just wide enough to fit a car heatercore with two fans on either side in a push/pull configuration, and a shroud between each fan and the core. Mount it that way, and you can use a radiator long enough to take 2x 120mm fans on each side. Can look nice and symmetrical, and you can run the water lines through a modded 5.25 bay or through a pci slot(s) if you don't want to cut much metal.

A heatercore should run you about twenty dollars (US). There's lots of info about them on the forums here.
