Default 226 W Pelt from DangerDen

Here's the specs:

- Maximum operating temp: 125 C
- Imax = 24 Amps
- Qmax = 226.1 Watts
- Vmax = 15.2 Volts
- Delta Tmax = >67 (C)
- Size = 50mm X 50mm X 3.10mm

What estimated temperatures would 12v and 15A produce? This is for a Water Chiller. Assume that there is no load on the TEC and that the warm side is getting adequate cooling.

way to vague!!!
but I'll make a bunch more assumptions and then tell you that my 225W pelt water chiller, with no load at all can take water from 80 F ambient down to 55 F and in the wintertime from 70 ambient down to 35...but who cares? you need a load and everything changes when you introduce that load.

Well the reason I don't know the load is because I want to use the water chiller to cool:

CPU, PSU, Hard Drive, CD-ROM, Disk Drive, Northbridge, Video Card, and still have cold water in the lines so I can set a fan inside the case and have it blow on a small radiator inside the case to blow cold air around in the case.

Now if anybody could figure out the load on that, then I'd be very impressed!

you want to water cool your CDrom Drive?
that is a first... but is there any benifit?

The reason I'm going to water cool my CD-ROM is because it gets hot...

The case I'm going to be building is going to have NO ventilation at all. It will be plexiglass and will be sealed tight, so no air in/out. Which is why I want to use a TEC to cool everything in there, and still be cold enough to pull some cold air from a small RAD to cool the rest of the computer's components.

I'll try to help...not impress.
As I said I have a 225 watt pelt chiller.
same mobo, xp2600@ 2600mhz (12.5 x 208) water cooled cpu, water cooled nb
I can maintain 22 (c) regardless of load in a 26~28 ambient room. The cdr, hdd will add little to that load...the radeon will add and I think (from several friend experiances) you should expect the water temp to rise 1.5~2 degrees (c). Your stumbling block is the radiator inside the case. The pelt is actively cooling water...a radiator is going to try to equalize temps and problably be more efficiant at it that than what ever watt pelts you can throw into the mix. Dump the radiator concept and you should see water temps of around 24 (c) with ambient @ 26~28. If that isn't cool enough add some more pelts. This is assuming you are water cooling the pelts (dual loop) with ambient temp water.

I'll just add a very small home-made radiator in there with no fans inside. It'll help keep it a little colder in there.

Oh, and I won't be using a dual-loop cooling system. I'm going to air cool the pelt.

But before anybody starts freaking out saying you can't cool a pelt like that, I have an idea to pull more air off of the alpha pal than anything I've seen before.

How are you dumping your heat outside the box? If it's all sealed up, the heat will happily stay in there, no matter how craftily you move it around. Is the Rad going to be outside the sealed computer case?

I'm confused as to how you are going to get rid of the heat.

However, even if you do get all the heat from the hot side of the pelt out of the system, a single 225W pelt isn't going to cool your whole computer. I can almost certainly say that.

I think it might be able to keep it stable. Not overclocked thoooo!
I believe you are going to be disappointed with the air cooled pelt. Much effort will be spent, noise will be an issue and in the long run you will find that wter cooling it/was an easier approach.

Ok, here's the scheme of things...

Imagine a 3" wide case made of plexyglass. 2 PSU's inside, 1 for the TEC, one for the system. The radiator is going to be inside this case.

The TEC/Heatsink & Fan/Copper Water Chiller block are going to be attached to the back, outside of the case.

To get the heat off of the TEC, I'm going to use a 120 MM Fan. But I'm going to cut the blades off, and turn it into a spiral blower, so it pulls the air off of the Alpha Pal, and blows air out of a vent outside of the small container that all of these are in.

When I get home, I'll make a small diagram and show you what I mean.

BTW, the reason I think the 226 pelt will handle it is
this guy:
http://www.qubcafe.com/sordac/sordac.html
http://www.qubcafe.com/sordac/sordactwo.html

has an air cooled 225 pelt chilling the oil that his complete system (save cdr/hdd/floppy) is floating in

so oil is the environment rather than air...same deal, the cooling is adequate.

Fascinating implementation, wymjym. Thanks for the link!
