Default 7v Fan shuts down PSU?

I tired hooking up my 120mm Panaflo High at 7v, and when i power on the psu, it spins for about a second and then dies. I have to Unplug the psu, plug it back in, and switch the back switch on.

Is it bad to put a ground load on the 5v line?

Uhh YESSSS!!!

you should never put a direct ground load on a 5 or 12v line from a PSU. Thankfully your PSU is smart, and detected the short and stoped from powering up.

do NOT ground out any 5 or 12 v line from the PSU, you need to put it through a load of some sort.

if you connect a computer up to the psu, and run a fan on 7v you won't have a problem.

The psu will not like current coming in on the 5v line at all.
