acpi has its ups and downs. If you turn off acpi you will in many cases get slightly better performance, also you will be able to set devices IRQs so they wont all pile on one leaving others empty. However you may lose features like hibernation and standby, not sure if these are of use to you.

Good luck with abit, you'll need it

also, with acpi off, win2k will not like shutting down itself. lastly, acpi off means your cpu runs at 60% power usage even when it is idle. so your temps are higher, but they don't fluctuate very much

Default Which BIOS are you using?

I have a KG7-R and never got any ACPI error messages...
first of KG7 is fully ACPI compatible mobo, so I don't know why you're getting an error message... if I were you I would contact ABIT rigth away...

In Win2K disabling ACPI is the easiest thing, but remember there's no turning back... If you want ACPI back, then you need to make a fresh install... Go to your "Device Manager" and under "Computer" change "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" to "Standart PC", just like u normally update a driver... Don't forget to choose "Display a list of known drivers..." though ;0)

For more info visit the Paul's Unofficial KG7/KR7A FAQ...

Good luck

some bios's have the option to turn on and off acpi, and if you have it turned off in the bios then win2k shits itself and wont install properly unless u do the f7 bodge at the beginning of the install.

Make sure that in the bios you dont have the acpi turned off, that could be the one problem.
