Snap 2000 speed question.

Hello. I acquired a Snap! 2000 Server. It has OS ver. 3.4.805 and I put 2 WD 250 gigs in it. They are in a RAID 1 Mirror configuration. My tranfer speed coping from from my Vista comp to the server is about 2.7mb/s. Is this an average speed for the 2000, or is this slower than it should be? Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

The SnapOS is not compatiable with Vista. I would suggest you read the FAQ's and a thread the reported problems and possiable work a rounds. Both should be stickys.

Nothing can be done to speed things up. But you will get higher speeds using a FTP connection vs SMB (Samba).

Thank you for the reply. I have read the sticky's. I am able to log into my snap server with no problem. Should I be looking at about double the speed using it through FTP? Would you happen to have a fan replacement that you would suggest?

The 2200 uses a Delta AFB0612LB which is a 11.5cfm 60mm fan. I recommend installing a higher CFM fan if you install 7200 rpm drives. If it's in a server room where it's cool the original speeds should be fine. If your not concern about noise install a high speed fan other wise use the medium speed is what I did.

FTP access will be faster due to less overhead. Writes are the slowest function.

Are the 2200 and the 2000 in the same case? Do you have a website that you would recommend purchasing a fan from?

NO, the 2200 and 2000 have different cases, MB, and fans. The 2200 is faster and has a nicer looking case. Each have there own set of features. The 2000 were never originally design for 7200rpm HD's.

As for fans I use Mouser, Digi-Key, and others. And my local Fry's.
