Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode
Hi, A bit of help from some guru's if possable
I have a Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode, the disc and power lights flashing in sync. about every second. I cannot see the snap although the network activity light is normal. I have tried the 6 press reset, but to no avail. The Snap has been in maintanance mode for about 3 days (I guess its stuck) Any help appreciated. FD |

Re: Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode
Once in maintance mode you must tell it what type of reset you need. Then you must use assist to find it and do the initial setup if you reset the ip.
Here is the link to resetting the snaps http://wiki.procooling.com/index.php/Snap_Server_Resets There is a lot of info in the wiki, plus the link in my signature will take you to the RAQ's for the SnapOS Models.

Re: Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode
Thanks Blue.
I found the light pattern that reflects the maintanance mode i am stuck in... its the software update mode without an ip address SYS DSK 1 2 Snap! Server does not have IP Address; Waiting for a download in broadcast mode. The network is working fine but the snap is not requesting an ip as far as i can tell. - the lights for the network seem to be working as they normally would. I have tried the reset of 4 lights - but it still reboots in the same mainanance mode?? any ideas? |

Re: Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode
That indicates that your HD has failed, when you see the 1 -2 led pattern.
So you have several options to try. If the HD is spinning up and every things sounds right, NO Clicking. You may be able to salvage the HD using SpinRite. Warning DO NOT INSTALL IN A PC THAT RUNS WINDOWS. If windows try to mount or does any thing to the HD all is lost. Some times freezing a HD will make one work for a short time, if you try this you need to be setup with DD to recover the boot tracks before it dies completely. If that does not work you need to get bin file to reload the OS on a new hd. All of this is in the FAQ's

Re: Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode
Installing new HD will only work if you have a v1 1000. It's the only 1x00 model that has the OS in flashram.
You will need an image file to bring the unit back to life.

Re: Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode
Good to hear,
If it has 2 HD's that should put it to a 2200 model. 2000 models have the OS in flashram.

Re: Snap 1000 stuck in maintanance mode
It is definatly a 1000 series (frankenstien). It came with 1 drive and really only has the space for 1 drive, BUT in the tradition of the forum i changed the ide cable to a dual cable and fitted two drives after installing the image on them - then used the debug command the format 10000 and 10008 - hey prestow two drives on a 1000 series.
I would say though if anyone is going to try this - they need a modded case (make one yourself) to house the two drives as the origional one is too small, and make sure you give it plenty of cooling - the two drives together make a lot off heat. Thanks again blue FD |
