M4100 CPU upgrade --> Cobalt 3
I have a M4100 with 256 of ram i also have a Cobalt Raq 3 that i am retireing that has this Socket 7 mod from a 300mhz to a 550 mhz AMD K6-2 with the speaker wire mod.
It has worked flawless for years and did improve the performance on the raq 3. my question is will this same mod work on the M4100? Thanks http://www.cobaltfacts.com/raqprocessor.html |

Re: M4100 CPU upgrade --> Cobalt 3
Well, for starters, the M4100 uses an Intel 233Mhz, not an AMD 300Mhz. So ignoring the voltage difference between the two processors, the multiplier setting is different. Meaning, this TYPE of mod might work, assuming the voltage does not become an issue, but you would need the proper "jumpers" changes for 3.5 X 66Mhz to whatever you are going to use (like 3.5 X 66Mhz to 6.5 X 66Mhz for a switch from a 233Mhz to a 433Mhz).

Re: M4100 CPU upgrade --> Cobalt 3
In a 4100, probably not (due to clearances and cooling). In a 4000, maybe, won't know until we try and see results. Do you have one? They are hard to find these days.

Re: M4100 CPU upgrade --> Cobalt 3
As I said, I doubt it will work in the 4100. There is VERY LITTLE clearance between the CPU HSF and the top of the case in a stock unit. I don't think there is enough for the evergreen unit (at leats not enough to have proper cooling).

You got one? Want to sell it? Then I could test it. OR, you could go buy a 4000... |

Re: M4100 CPU upgrade --> Cobalt 3
unfortunitly i dont have one, went looking on ebay, couldnt find anything.
jerry could still test this with the cover off the unit. but i dont think anything is possible on a 4100 as it stands there is nowhere near enough room for clearance. |
