Default First waterblock construction attempt [CPU BLOCK FINISHED!]

I thought i'd post my progress at my first attempt at waterblock construction.

After a long long time gathering the tools and materials i needed (it's difficult if you don't really know what you need!) i finally started building today. I started out making the bottom of my block but it quickly went wrong so i made it into the top lol.

The block i'm making is a cross between a #Rotor block with a bit of impingement thrown in for good measure. I'm pretty much following a guide written by g.l.amour here . All credit and big thanks go to him, aswell as #Rotor himself, cather, bigben2k, volenti and all the other guys that contribute to the commmunity to help people like me

As i said, started out making the bottom...

... until i released how difficult it was to be precide with a drill press and how important decent centre punches were. I changed the design slightly from that in the picture which should make it easier to machine.

I didn't really think to take many pictures in the middle of the process but this is where i'm at now.

It took a long time just to get to that stage. Having never worked with copper before it was a big learning process. I'd never tapped anything before either so i was getting a feel for that aswell.

Anyway, more progress soon as i get some more free time.

Very nice work. All it needs now is a hour or two with polishing

Default More progress

Did some more work on the block today. It's nearly done.

I redesigned the block to be a 1 in 2 out so that i can go with the new revised loop (cheers 8-Ball)

I snapped a drill bit making pilot holes whoops! But i carried on anyway

Dremel out, cooper gone

All excess copper removed now

And this is how it is looking right now

Things left to do...

Cut base down to size
Re-make the plastic middle jet layer and spacing layer
Get some decent wet and dry so i can lap it.

What do you think so far?

I don't know precisley how thick the base is, but for the holes over the core the base is about 2-3mm thick and for the exit channels about 5-6mm

Need to order my pump, tubing, get my heatercores, make my res and then i'll test it. and got my nb and gfx blocks to make hehe.

Should have the CPU loop up and running by next weekend though

i'd send you the files but they are corel designer files so dunno if you will be able to read them. I just used the socket hole dimensions from the sticky at the top and worked from there. made sure everything was central and just made up the rest.

Basic block dimensions are 80mmx50mm. doesn't really matter what size holes are drilled for in/out channels as it is all just removed, but 3-4 works well. Just give it a go, make it up as you go along and it'll work out.
