Didn't think it would be a problem asking for the free OS upgrade that was once offered and for the Snap Assist program that I once had which came with my Snap server. No problem... won't ask anymore.

Asking is not really the problem. The problem is when someone blatenly responds and posts a link to the files. This is were this site got in trouble the first time. What you do off this site I do not care. hint hint

The Snap Assist can be free distributed, but not the OS anymore.

Since Adaptec took over SnapAppliance everything changed, for the worst I might add. Adaptec pulled all software that Snap only required you to register for access. What use to be free is no longer free to all users. Only if your hardware is new enough to qualify for it.

Since Adaptec contacted the admin/owners of this site to stop the distribution of their copyrighted material WE MUST COMPLY. Or this forum will be forced to close down. And we All do not want that.

Especially since this site offers better help, and free help I might add, than you'll ever squeeze out of Adaptec.

Thanks to your help, I do have my Snap Server 2000 up and running. I am curious though. I replaced the two different 10GB drives in it with two identical Maxtor 80GB drives, but I have different capacities. Drive 1 (Device 0x10000) shows 76,613 Total MB, 76,536 Free, and Drive 2 (Device 0x10010) shows 74,799 Total MB, 74,724 Free, and I was wondering if anybody knows why this shows up this way, or what might have happened?

are the drives absolutely identical? as in same revisions. Or are both just Maxtor 80's that are similar at first glance?

They are identical except for the manufacture date, and they were one month apart on that.

If you are going to run raid, move the smaller cap to master (10010, drive 1)

Amen to that. I picked up a 2*30Gb SS off ebay. It arrived at 07:30 GMT this morning and I've been scouring the web since then trying to get some info on how to get it to show up on my network.

I eventually ascertained that I need Assist. However, this doesn't seem to be available from the manufacturer so I've hit a wall. If anyone cane email info on where to get access to Assist I'd be very grateful.

Thanks to all here as this is the only place I could find anything of any use.

regards

[edit]
Further browsing the board led me to a post indicating that some of the Dell versions of Assist will work. After a bit of fiddling with the system reset options I managed to get the 2000 to be recognised and I have configured it. Sadly, it seems that one of the 30Gb drives is dead as it is not reported by the admin screen and there was a nasty noise a few times when I was rebooting. Looks like it's iffy. I'll get back to the vendor since the one thing they positively stated was that both drives were verified as operational and had been read/write tested. I bought he unit with a view to upgrading the disks but I paid the price in the expectation that it would offer 60Gb at the outset. I'll let you know the outcome.

thanks again for all the great info here. I wouldn't have gotten off the starting blocks without it.

We have been having some serious family health issues, which coupled with the holidays, delayed my pursuit of the SNAP 2000 issus I was having. Anyway, I found that the setup information on my two "identical" Mxtor 80GB drives was not identical. I bought two 250GB Seagate drives to put into my SNAP 2000 but now I need an OS upgrade to the 3.4.805 or better yet 3.4.807 I believe. Can anybody help me out with that? Thank you all again.

Hi there,
I am new to this web site, but it seemed to be the place for Snap server answers, so here goes. I have a Model 2000 up and running great. Current capacity is 2x30 Gb and I am looking to upgrade to 2x400 Gb. But I need to upgrade software first and Adaptec wants me to pay over $100 for version 4.0.860. The rest of the details for my unit are HW Ver 2.0.0 Bios Ver 2.0.252 and SW Ver 3.4.803 if any one can help that would be great. Thanks in Advance SR76

Also, I wouldnt recomend running anything over 3.4.805. Unless you need AD 2003 support. And if you need that support id recomend using a latermodel snap server.

Could anyone out there confirm the file size of OS Version 3.4.805? 30 Mb sound about right?

Thank you for all of your help. I have received my new software for my unit from adaptec. One quick question before I update though, Is there a way to backup the software currently loaded?

You could make an image of the primary drive. But the 2000 stores the OS primarilly on the flashram so whatever it has on there ti will automartically load the the primary HDD if it detects nothing there already. And I do not know of a way to back up the contents of the flashram itself. Perhapse David does.

Hallis answered the question correctly.

There is no way to backup a 2000 model OS so it can be re-installed.

But, by virtue of it being a flashram model, you shouldnt have to

OF course that means you're stuck with whatever versions you have SUP's for.
