Make your own UV Dye, And make it any color.

Most of you might already know this, but here you go.

Get a skinny good brand highlighter and pull out inside. Cut a slit down it and place into a quart of distilled water for one hour.
Then pull out cotton or the left over fabric.

Then let it sit for 24 hour before using.

Then take another quart container(powerade bottle) and fill 3/4 with distilled water. Then add about 5 or 10% of the orginal mixture of dye into the quart of distilled water.

Keep the orignal mixture for later batches. Just remember to cut it later with distilled water.

It is super bright and during the day its clear. Thats the cut mixture. The orignal of course is much stronger.

Poor mans UV Dye. Wow is that stuff bright.

Any one tried this??

even when cut it glows way better than anything I have seen.

I would have to see proof that it ruins a pump. So far it does not seem to hurt copper or brass.

There is of course one true way to find out. Just do it.

But I will do more research first.

Although a pump is just plastic and a magnet. At least mine is.
Remember a pond pump which is what most of us have is built for a salt water fish tank and outdoor use. There are much worse things in the water that will kill a pump. For one is calcium build up and that stuff is a b i t c h, but pump still runs good with it.

Also the drive staft can be replaced in a pump for very little money. Worse case.

Just thinking out loud.

Well my brother keep this dye glowing for over a year in a bottle.
I have a test running and all is good so far. Have not added to system yet. Will report back.

Depends on the tubing. With clearflex, it seems unlikely, with silicon, I would say definitely. Clearflex is supposed to be nonporous though, so it shouldn't pick up anything.

Could the damage risk be due to what type highlighter is used?

Water based vs permanent alcohol based? And there may be more types I don't know of.

Well the test tube I have is clearflex60 and the color of the water inside with the UV highlighter dye is CLEAR without UV light.
Put light on it and wow it glows nice and bright.

If your real curious as I am, just make some for $1 and put it into a test tube of clearflex. Im going to hook it up to a spare pump now a let it run non stop.

I dont thing the UV dye will mess with tubing.

This UV dye can light up the corner of a room.
Of course that is the full mixture. I cut it to make it weaker and hopefully non problematic.

The Highlighter that I used was a thin one that is made by BIC.

Its called BIC brite liner

and that was about 20-25 drops of dtek dye.
I was trying to get it strong enough to match the others.
Could not do it.

The 5% is by far the brightest and w/ the bathroom light on it is very watery looking, almost clear.

Yes, this is an old trick i learned and used in my pimpin dorm room at college.

Unfortunatley, you CANNOT make it glow any color you want. Most highlighter liquid does NOT glow that well. Only the eyes=bleeding yellow ones work really well. The florescent pink works ok, and all the normal colors dont light under black light for shit.

No, it doesnt fade, and yes, its water based.

Still have an Absolut bottle full of the stuff from 5 years ago. Still glowing great.
