lol ambient, i think i can fit 3 full size atx boards in the mobo compartment; when i get my full length meter back, i will take some measurements on this mf, believe me, it is fookin huge.

really, really, really, enormous thx to all that helped to think along on this one. days ago i was considering buying some case i didn't even want, and would have payed upto 250$ to get a size that could fit multiple radiators.

thx. i can't believe i was ready to toss this case at the junkyard. now that it became possible to mount a normal motherboard, it becomes more an more clear to me that this case eats the YY cubes i was wanting to get, for breakfast. doesn't look too clean from the behind, but thats not all that important.

now all i got left is make a PSU holder in the other compartment. and make holders for about 3 radiators, the titan, bigmomma, and my trusty ol' hayden rad. too bad i'm not into pelts or phase change cooling, because even that would be no problem to fit extra into this case.

@ ambient,

the last pic u posted of your modded case, all the paint seems to be removed, in a way that it even looks like u got an alu case. how did u get it to look that good. prolly got to it with some crazy powertools. like the look of it alot though.

enough for tonite, tomorrow i'm gonna try to fit the psu and build in 3 rads in parallel. this should hopefully give me below 40°C passive cooling, we'll see.

thx for the support dude. if u want a case like that it might be a good idea to roam some webhosting companies, normally they always have some old junk lying around.

, I'd get rid of the original holey part of the back though. use as much of the replacement back as you can to make it look tidier. Are you gonna have a PSU on the mobo side?, or block off the PSU hole at the top?...

well, because the case i used as a backplate was real cheap, the steel is not very thick, with an enermax 420W i think it is gonna bend too much.

i'll put psu in the other compartment, there's heaps of space there anyway.

there are 2 opposing pieces out of bendy cardboard, the pieces u thk to be wood, are just very thick (4mm) cardboard. took some pattex to glue and airtighten the joints. then cover it up with painters tape. supercheap.

the fan is 1 120mm enermax. dunno cfm's or rpm; as it is constantly being rheobussed. obj is to quiten the HDD down more than in my old rig; i calibrate my fans on 100% load and tone them down until they are quiter than my hard disk. so in the end i hope to have a cleaner rig, and hopefully a bit quiter.

The frame of the case had this preserved steel smooth stuff on it, I then sanded it with 400 and it was really smooth, cleaned it, applied paint. I held the little back piece in place with jb weld and a piece of alu. The paint i used is below. It worked pretty good cause if I messed up

it did a good job of coverin it up. The color is charcoal black.

I'll vouch for the RustOleum Hammered finish--looks great, and it's nearly impossible to mess up in painting it on.

Well, I see you already cut into the case.

If I payed attention to this thread earlier, I would have said 1/4" Plexi motherboard tray with 1/8" plexi backplane.

But, since you found that FREE

i must say though that upto now i spent about 100$ getting the case where it is now. lots of dremel wheels (burnt 8 alread) , sanding bits, riveting pliers (boy, those r fun), drill, new tubing, screws,... but i'd have to have spent almost the same amount modding a new bought case.

thx for the painting tips, dunno if i feel like doing that just yet. my legs and back are still sore of working that case all weekend.

a radiator mounting detail here, haven't seen much ppl do it like this, so i thought it might come in handy for certain modders. doens't look like much, but i can turn the case around, kick it, and the rad still won't move.
