Default 1/2" Versus 3/8" Fittings and Tubing

I'm looking at my T fitting and all the barbs on the pump, rad and block. It's very apparent that if you use 3/8" tubing the ID of the barbs is much smaller than the tubing. In fact 1/2" barbs appear to have close to the same size as 3/8" tubing. I went to the Home Depot and saw I could force 1/2" fittings into 3/8" tubing and it appears the IDs then are about the same.

Anyone try actually using 1/2" products with 3/8" fittings? flow then should be like that of 1/2" if barbs are the restriction, shouldn't it?

What about tubing types, I heard to avoid clear vinyl as it can flatten, so currently I'm using PVC (braided type). I see places selling the milky tubing (I think Teflon) is it flexible, and is there an advantage? It sure costs more!

P.S. Yes I did make the square peg fit in the round hole in kindergarden, and they said it wouldn't fit

OK, add one more to my list, is it better than the PVC stuff??? I bought all my tubing at the Home Depot, but the watercooling stores don't seem to use it. Is it inferior??? (leak, crack, split, doesn't flow or cool as well???)
