I just talked to Adaptec Customer Service and they said they will post Snap OS 3.4.805 on the website Monday. I have a Meridian Snap 2000 system that I have had running since 1999 and told them I need that OS and I will not pay for any 4.x updates since the 3.4.805 was free and I was given no notification of end-of-life!

Since I believe this will still not happen, could anyone send me 3.4.805? I want to upgrade my original 16GB drives to 200GB (my serial # is above 47000).

Thanks!

Me too . I just bought a Snap Server 1000, with a very noisy 40GB drive. I'd like to replace it with a quiet 160GB, so I need to upgrade to 3.4.805. The box currently has v3.1.618.

Will the 1000 format and copy the OS to the drive with out any intervention?

If not you will need to copy the boot tracks from the 40 to the 160. You will then get 130gig.

I had to dd per the wiki instructions, but the file system created was the same size as was on the 40GB drive, not 130GB as expected.

You need to send "co de format 10000 /reinit" from debug to correct the mbr table.

There was a mfg change arout the 28k SN. If you look throught the forum most of the 2000 problems are related to sn <28k.

My serial number is above 50k so I'm ok there. Where can I get the newer firmware (3.4.805) for this unit, can someone email it to me?

Verify your bios is a v2, and every thing will work.

Hello, I am trying to upgrade our Snap M4100 to from 100Gb drives to 300Gb drives. Here is my infor:

Model Software Hardware Serial# BIOS
4000 series 3.1.618 (US) 2.2.1 554920 2.4.437

It appears I need at least 3.4.803 from reading this forum, but I can't find an OS upgrade anywhere on Adaptec's site. Could someone provide me with the OS upgrade? Thanks.

4100 has a max limit of 137gig.
You can up to 120gig or 160gig and loose the over run.

What is it about the 4100 that makes it impossible to upgrade? The device itself says "4000 series". I realize that I'm new to this particular upgrade, but maybe there's a possibility that the OS upgrade would work for me?

EDIT: I would really like to try the os upgrade. Could somone generous email me at xferboyx@gmail.com with the os? Thanks very much.

The 4100 has seperate raid controllers. There is a bug in these promise controller chips. SnapAppliance elected not to release a patch to the firmware to correct this. So there is no way to get support for LBA48bit addressing. May users have tried, over 3-5 yrs now, with no luck. You will be just spinning your wheels. Just face the fact.

The flashram for which the firmware and OS is stored is soldered in place.

Hi there,

I`ve just acquired a Snap 4000. I propose to buy (assuming no-one tells me it won`t work) 4 x Seagate 400GB drives and whack `em in. From reading the forum pages, I believe all I need is more ram (already got it), and a copy of Snap OS 3.4.805. I`m unable to find the sup file anywhere - could I prevail upon someone for a copy?

Cheers,

Paul

No one has tried that large of HD yet, in a 4000. Max was 250-300gig. Since it uses software raid it should work.

Default Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

xferboy has just hit on an interesting question for me in a round about way. I also have a "supposed" Quantum 4100 (does not say 4100 on it anywhere), but my Snap Server reports itself as a

"4000 series"
Software 3.4.772
Hardware 2.0.1
Serial 305852
BIOS 2.0.282.
Model Number is 70700042-004

A search on the internet reveals nothing for that model number, but all other models with the 70700042 prefix appear to be 4000's, not 4100's. I have looked at various circuit board pictures and units and all the 4000's appear to be 2U and the 4100's are 1U. My unit is 2U and the circuit board appears to be a 4000 circuit board from pictures I have seen. Is there a way to know for sure? Does anyone know what the Quantum 70700042-004 model number is for sure? Do the 4100's report themselves as "4000 series"? Is it possible both xferboy and I have 4000's instead of 4100's?

If so, it is my understanding that software 3.4.805 is required to go above the 137GB limit (on a 4000 that is, not a 4100). If this unit and xferboy's unit are 4000's instead of 4100's, where the sam heck can I/we get my hands on 3.4.805 to replace my 3.4.772?

Yes, the 4100's report themselves as a 4000 series. If it is 1U, then it is a 4100, if it is 2U, then it is a 4000. There weren't any 2U versions of the 4100 and vice versa.
