Default 342 heatcore Questions

I just recieved a fedco 2-342 heatcore that i special ordered. However the tubes are oval shaped where they enter the tanks.

Not sure wether to keep it or return it and look for one with round tubes?

Is this goin to hurt flow useing just one aquaXtreme 50z, storm g4, silverprop gpu block and 5 or so feet of tubing?

Can't you just bore out the whole to make them round?

I don't think it will affect your flow significantly.... but the bent/oval entry of the tube is not uncommon on heater cores... personally I don't think you have sufficient grounds to return the thing...

If you're going to rip out the tube and add barbs I think the point is moot as you can shape the hole to whatever size you want (within physical limitations)

Consider this....

The water goes through the opening and slams into the far side of the tank, then goes into the channels. Water is doing TWO 90 degree turns (sideways and then down). Overall cross-section is still the same, so no restriction. (So now what do you think hehe )
I am using same version - popped a barb on one end (for the mcp350) and just a tube stub on the other end for 7/16" ID to the rest of the loop.

The only improvement in the GDI equiv (originally got mine @ autozone) is that the holes are round and the tanks are taller to allow the round entry/exit. (which makes them in some cases just a little bigger).

I think boring out the holes would be a little risky cause of the thin brass tanks damage easily. That and the tanks arent big enough for round holes, which would be 3/4 inch in order to make the ovals round.

So the GDI version is the one with round holes, wish i had know that before, lol.

Keep the oval fittings. You will NOT see any difference in temps because of that miniscule restriction. Cut the tube about an inch out from the core and stretch the tube over it.

I gotta go with KillerNoodle here; the oval shape will also allow you to shroud this core more easily.

I'm trying to mount a shroud on my core, but my tubes are round, and there's barely a millimiter there.
