Default Power Supply

Hello,

Is there a powersupply that can supply the voltage/amperage necessary to run a 226w pelt, and 2 - 80w pelts?

Have not got them yet. I figured someone would ask that. Any way an estimate could be made? I will search some more and get exact numbers.

Well finally got around to measure the Amps the 226W pelt is pulling from my Sparkle 550. It's an average 15 Amps!!

Additionally had to share the power to the pelt between 2 12V rails, because wires where getting to darn hot when connected to only one rail.

The Sparkle I use 550 is rated at 32 Amps, and is also powering the rest of the hardware in the computer.

Lol, it wants to be connected to about 4 rails really both positive and negative side.

15amps @ 12v doesnt sound right either thats only like 100watts of cooling power.

P=VI

P: power (Watts)
V: Voltage (volts)
I: current (amps)

so 12 * 15: 180 Watts.

Which tells you the power consumption of the pelt, but not the heat pumping capacity.

You cannot achieve the full 32A from the 12V rail if you are running the rest of your system from the same PSU.

There is only a single 12V rail in computer PSUs. Multiple wires from the same point do not constitue multiple rails.

To run your 2x80W + 226W at 12V you will need 32A. This is irrespective of how much heat they can transfer. They still consume said electrical wattage.

So, computer PSUs are a good beat to run TECs at the moment.

I'm working on a 700W 12V supply. I'm investigating all the different ways I can realise such large currents. The supply will be water-cooled in itself. When its all done I will post the schematic so everybody can make one.
