Default Some pictures, work in progress, tomorrow hehe..

Lookie

As you can see, I got some collets, some endmills and two things (don't know the english word, morse-something?)

I only got one endmill with 4 cutters on it, and only with a diameter of 10mm'ers...(1"=2,54mm)...so, I better buy some more in the week.

Here is some metall, pretty much actually, it looks a lot more in reality than on the picture, but more to come

My arm :P

Oh! I got my new hdd today too! Now I got one 40 and one 80 (this) GB. Seagate IV ofcourse

Hope you like it, I will post more pictures of my "milling-art" tomorrow.

One of those things that you dont know the name to looks like a fly cutter, If I seen the face of them, I could prolly tell you some more about them, But the one on the right looks like like it has incerts. If so those would be the cutting end of the tool.

That is a nice looking mill! Looks like it never been used. My whole mill will fit on the X/Y table on yours!

I am not sure what those are in the pics. The one on the left kinda looks like a fly cutter, the one on the right looks like somekind of tool holder.

More pictures!

I've made thumbs this time, click on the picture to see it fullsized.

Mill:

Placing the block in the vise

Making the block plane (with a 10mm flute )

I milled 50mm/min about 1mm deep without any problems

Pretty plane

Milling

Dilemma #1: I only got a 10mm endmill.
Dilemma #2: Didn't have any batteries for the pinolmeasurement (Z) so i didn't know how deep I milled.

Here is the blocks, the first is 10mm channels and the second is 12mm, the first is ugly and the second is better but not good.

Very hard to see the shapes, damn reflective metals!

Hope you like it.

It took about 1 hour or maybe 45 minutes, but I can tell that you can make 1 of those blocks in less than 10 minutes if you know your shit

You guys with the mills, if I buy a drilling endmill, how does the bottom of the channel look like then? is it a plane surface?

I think you are talking about a ball nose end mill. If so, the channel will look the exact oposite of the tool. Thats an easy way to look at it.

It will be rounded on the bottom.

Finally I got a hold of my new endmills.

1 3mm, 2 6mm, 2 12mm and 1 20mm to use as a flycutter, (flycutters=$300+++)

So, here is what I made this evening, my third creation:

Dual 6mm channels and 2 12mm holes for inlet and outlet.

I am impressed you did that without CNC as little as you have had experience! Good work! Sooner or later your going to have to actually use a few of them blocks and tell us how they do!

nice work........cant wait to seee some more.
ChrioN.if you have a 1/2" collet or endmill holder, you can get a cheap fly cutter set of 3 for about 15 dollars U.S. and they do just as clean ofwork as the higher dollar ones do. they just cant remove material as fast though. but for 5 dollars a peice versus 300+ dollars, who cares. thats 10 or so more endmills anyways!!

just go to Ebay, and do a search for fly cutter.
theres a plethora of em' on there.
or you could go to www.wttool.com ...they got em' too and you can order whatever you want online.
but i think they have a $25 minimum. but after you look through there catalog, im sure youll have no problems making the minimun purchase amount!!

danke kön...or how they say in german :P

Look at this:

Mill Diameter: 7/32
Shank Diameter: 1/4

What is what? Shank, is that the part that goes up in the machine?
And Mill is the thing that mills?

Yeah, shank diameter is the part you stick in the tool holder being a collet or whatever, and mill diameter will be the size of the path the tool is making.

Now that I saw how that fly cutter looks like (the name here is completly different), I think that tool could be easily home made to mount lathe bits. I just have one question, I saw that all fly cutters , they are excentric meaning the weight is of center, how does that effect when turning like 1000 rpm, would that vibrate? But if one would be made with not extremly big diameter I think that shouldn't be too much problem. I realy gotta try making this because it is very simple, and it is a great tool for surface milling.
