This is proably the source for all the problem. Does not have enough ram (or some space) to alocate 175mb.
But you only have 128meg due to high density, Yes???
If 256m you should have 192 meg after the 64 meg for OS.

I don't think it's the source of "all my problems" since I don't have any problems. Everything is working just fine. BTW I have 256M ram.

The fsck had problems getting memory after allocating the rest of the other 90% of ram for the i-node cache. This happened on the degraded RAID. It managed to use swap space and complete the fsck.

I'll try to "fix" the good raid5 after it is rebuilt and see if this memory "problem" comes back.

As far as I can tell, everything is working just fine.

One other thing.

I can't find the setting to tell the snap to automatically startup after a power failure. Can someone point me to this. Thanks!

Also, I had a problem shutting down the other night. I got the system light flashing 3 times (indicating shutdown) but I waited 10 minutes, and finally pulled the plug. The web interface was unavailable, and the disk light rarely ever flashed. I'm not worried about it, but it was strange. Has anyone else had this happen?

The power on after power loss should be under Server Settings in the web interface.

As far as the shutdown problem. It's probably one of those one-time things.

Edit: This is a 4000. right? What size drives you sporting again?

4000 with 4 320bg drives ina RAID5

You're right David, I had thought he was revering to a setting that dictated what to do after power loss, weather to restart, stay off, or "last status" type of thing. I was sure i saw something like that but I cannot remember where.

In any case. looks like his server is useless to him. I wouldnt mind picking it up from him.

similar to jumpering the 2 pins on the ATX motherboard connector to get the PSU to power up by itself.

Not on the these units. You have to hold the power button it for 5-10 sec to start them up, and the same sequence powers them off. You could make a bracket to hold a solonid valve with a timer. But thats a lot of work.

Naaaaa, a simple 555 timer circuit and a relay, SCR, or whatever... Very simple circuit....

All of my ups units are sized to carry the equipment for 30-45 minutes. Which should be more than enough time. Even when they do the rolling black outs. I'm more concern on shutting them down cleanly.

Not saying make a simple timer and Solonid to push the button would not work. It's just alot of trouble for simple function.

I don't think he's talking about using a solenoid...just a simple timer and a relay to electrically complete the same circuit as pushing the power button would do.

I'm with you on the UPS thing....I have a matrix UPS 5000 in the basement...maybe a little overkill, but I got it for free It holds my equipment for hours.

I try to test mine every couple of months so I know if my battereis are getting old. I had to replace them in one of mine last year. It went from 45 min to 5.
