Default What components would you use for a family member or business machine?

Guess I'll start

Swiftech MCP600 or Eheim 1048
Silverprop Fusion HL/SL (brass top)
Swiftech MCW6000 (mighty good block and only $40 )
a T not a res (still scared of them)
Not sure on the rad but it would need to fit with very little modding, and be made of copper.

I would use a top-reliable submerged pump, since they arent searching for top performance, and the added quiet would benefit them. But does that pump exist? Maybe ehein?

I would setup similar to the one you listed.
Fir a pump I would go 12v MCP600 or the C-Systems if I knew it was going to be reliable(prob two for the fault tolerance aspect).
I thnk the MCW6000 series would be the best choice
Not sure about the vid card block tho, but if I used one the Fusion would be the one.
I would use a res just for the extra capacity it has to allow for evap.
I would use a coolant like fluidxp for sure
For the rad I would prob use a BIX which should prove adequate and has the fit/finish I think would be required for such a machine and with so amny cases now coming with 12cm fans would be a fairly simple install.

ALX 800 with a ThermalTake Thunderblade (quietest 80mm on newegg). Cheap and effective enough for the task at hand.

Just to clarify the creation of this thread was prompted by this thread. Though I roughly agree with you the question is what parts you would spec if you did use a WC setup, not if doing so would be worth while.

I thought it would be interesting to have a survey on peoples faith in water cooling gear for long term worst case usage.

Is water cooling ready for the masses? If so what components would you base this on?

It's not ready for the masses. Heatpipes have just moved into the Dell arena, and they've got a long way to go before water becomes viable, if ever. That Dell solution I saw was two heatpipes (not centered...) in an aluminum sink that's still on the board. If they centered three of them right over the middle and had the pipes running to a 2*80 (or 92)mm heatsink (closer to radiator, actually) thing at the exhaust (like the Shuttle) they could get much better performance, and that'd still be in aluminum... Also, heatpipes add another TIM joint (between the heatpipe and the sink) and that will be fixed in due time, with the heatpipe built into the heatsink (cavity in the middle, hollowed out, same thing on the other end)

Intel's low heat projects will put watercooling back several years as well...

It's a long way to watercooling if the world ever gets there...
