Eheim pump qustion-
Just wondering from those using the Eheim pump for water cooling.
Do I need to seal the inlet and outlet plastic barbs (that have "O" rings on them) with Teflon tape? And do I need to seal the large disk on the suction side, which fits, just adjacent to the impellor, and also has an "O" ring? Thanks, Jim |
with eheim - no
they are designed to run inline and i havent heard of anyone having a leak problem.. been running my out of the box for a few weeks now with no problems just leak test it for a day with soapy water, obviously not hooked up to your system. the soap reduces surface tension of the water and allows it to slip through any cracks alot easier, and will show IF you have any leaks |
My setup has been running continuously for 8 months now, with those Eheim barbs. No leak, no problem.
[Edit] No need to add any sealant to your pump. You'll want to 'glue' the impeller to the rotor though, to prevent rattling. |
I used some thread lock stuff recommended by a plumber just for peace of mind.
|
With a danner is is absolutly necessary to seal the impeller and the threads. With an Eheim, they are damn near leak proof and it is not necessary. I love my Eheim :dome:

What type of glue did you use for that, epoxy? And thanks for all your input guys, I really appreciate it. Earlier on when I began this sloooooooooooo process of choosing my components, most recomended the Eheim, now I see why. Glad I got the Eheim. Jim |
Eheim's are pretty much impervious to damage, I've dropped mine 5+ times from 4-5 feet and it's till like new (except for a little little missing piece of plastic at the rear). It doesn't leak either as far as I know.

I used cyanolite. Super Glue 3, exactly.
Beware when you glue the impeller - do *not* glue the impeller shaft to its housing ! There's an article about it somewhere on the main page just check it if you're not sure. {edit] the article was written by the UnaClocker. Can't find it anymore. Anyone has links to some article ? |
don't you mean Cynoacrylite?
I can't find that article either, maybe it is on Una's webspace |
|
heheh!! it is it is!!

me = stupid. when i first got the pump i gooped the impeller housing to the pump, now i need to do this mod and i gotta scrape all the goop pff the pump :(

I got a Enheim pump and it got 1/2" inlets/outlets, where can I get 3/8"??
|
Eheim provides 1/2" <-> 3/8" adaptors for their pumps. Aquarium shops have them generally.
|
most aquarium shops should have them, I know DDen does as well
|
Hardware store. You get a reducing barb and an inch or two of 1/2 tube or you can buy smaller barbs and screw them onto the threading on the pump.
