New TC-4 and Spir@l are out!@!

Guys!!!

I just got my new TC-4 board from Dtek on Friday and let me tell you! There were several changes made to the block and it completely blows away the Maze3 I was using. Right now my idle temps are 26c and max at 32c (it's about 67f ambiant). Got that and the new bay-res which looks so cool. Will post pics soon!

TY Dtek!

BTW: The new Spir@ls look killer too.

bigdawginva 12-17-2002 11:18 AM

Can I assume you got the 3-barbed designed one with the jet spray nozzle over the die?

Neomoses 12-17-2002 01:14 PM

I haven't seen a 3-barbed TC-4 commercially available. I've only heard of a few individuals (myself included) making custom tops for theirs. Are they available somewhere?

bigdawginva 12-17-2002 05:16 PM

It appears there will be.

That's why I asked since he indicated several changes were made and that it blows away his Maze3.

From the looks of the block I have and the thread in a previous post, I have the new turbulators on mine and the side channels in the block are deeper than on previous batches of blocks. I was at Dannys shop and didn't see the three barb version.

I'm just giving my impression based on using a Maze3 for awhile and switching to the TC-4.

Now I did something real stupid and took back my Asus N7N8X board for an Abit NF-7S and it doesn't have the freaking four holes in the board to mount the block so I'm screwed..... I email dangerden to see if I can by that SHD hold down and will modify it to work with the TC-4.

Guy's your reading way to much into this three barb tops. I have had a few tops made on my own. Danny has nothing to do with it. I also made the turbulators that the new TC-4's are now using.

I just noticed the new dtek blocks a few days ago :D. I was thinking of getting a TC-4, but there the thing that kind of bothered me was that much like the Maze 3, the TC-4 doesn't have a fitting above the CPU die, so the coldest water wouldn't go over the hottest part of the CPU, and be heated up by the block. Has anyone tested the TC-4 against the spir@l? I'm 99.9% sure one of those will be my next block, but I'm not sure which one ;[.

Don't be fooled by the TC-4's lack of a centre inlet... it's still a great block. I'll be saddened when I am forced to sell mine (until I remember the reason why, that is... thanks Cathar :D ).

...and how's it working out for you? Not sure if you mentioned it elsehwere.

Skulemate 12-19-2002 03:53 AM

Sorry Cathar, I haven't tried it quite yet. My last exam is this morning, and I've not had any time to try out my newest toy. I'll definitely post results when I do try it though, rest assured.

DJ-Quack 12-19-2002 03:02 PM

How is the TC-4 compared to the Spir@l though? I don't want to end up with second best ;(. Oh by the way, Cathar, how much do your fancy 3 inlet blocks go for? I think that might be a better solution than the dtek blocks, from what I've heard.

nikhsub1 12-19-2002 04:18 PM

The TC-4 is better than the Spir@l, used both. Actually, the TC-4 is the best block besides Cathar's... Better than the Maze 3 too.

jtroutma 12-19-2002 06:31 PM

I can personally vouch for the TC-4. A wonderful performer and a nice looker too. If you do decided to get the TC-4, you wont be sorry :)

RickCain 12-20-2002 09:28 AM

I concurr.... the TC-4 is a serious performer. Last night I had the side of my case open and was getting 24c on the cpu and 19c on the case. That's pretty damn good if you ask me. With the Maze3 I was never able to get it under 30-32c no matter what.'

Just as a point of reference... I have my configuration going like this:

Pump-->bay-res-->pro-rad-->>block-->back to pump.

Is this right??? It was very hard to get the pump (Eniheim 1050) to start to push the water. I had to fill the res and turn the case all different angles to get it to push water.

Puzzdre 12-20-2002 04:13 PM

If I understood you correctly, you loose a lot of power having the pump push the water into the res first. You should do pump>wb or pump>rad, and have the res in last place in the loop (just before the pump inlet).
Guess that would solve the pump priming problem, having the water directly to the inlet of the pump from res.

Cheers!

While I agree the TC-4 is better than the Maze 3, there is not even a 1.5C differential. No way just the block gives you a 6 - 8C drop in temps unless you did something else or the Maze was not mounted properly etc....

RickCain 12-20-2002 05:59 PM

I don't know but that's what I have found so far. Even with my Maze3 on a P4 it never ever ran under 36C.

It might be in the quality of the finish on the block. I never touch them other than to mount it to the CPU.

Cathar 12-21-2002 07:31 AM

My Maze 3 had an irregular base on it that was bad enough that lapping it improved temps by 2C, and overclocking stability as well.

It almost always pays to lap any waterblock you receive.

MadDogMe 12-21-2002 08:02 AM

My M3 leaves 'machining' lines in the AS when the block is removed, very poor finish, I'd lapp it but am not sure how much longer I'll use it...
