Radeon watercooling?
Scratch whatever else I've said...
I would just like to if any of you have cooled the new radeons with a flat HSF or waterblock (basically not one designed for the 9700 or 9800) |
ok i figured out how to do this.. but i'd still like to see pictars :D

Look in the aircooling section at my 1U experiment post. I'm using a stock AMD HSF to cool my 9800. You have to remove the shim to do it correctly, and if you're careful that is pretty easy to do.

I am cooling my 9800 with a flat waterblock(Rotor style).
My core temps were 45C with stock cooling. They are at 37C with my waterblock . I still haven't remove the shim so i am not getting good contact. I am going to grid down the outside of my block to get better contact hopefully better temps aswell. |
Seriously, it is easier and safer to remove your shim. It takes all of a minute.
Take a razor and barely lip the edge under the shim and pull straight up. After a few times where the razor will pop up, the edge will bend up a bit. Once you have that, just work your way around and it comes right off. If you misgrind your block you may ruin it, crack the core, or worse. |
I ground around the edge of me block because if i messed up the grinding i could make a new block straight away. If me hand slipped taking of the shim i might ruin me good graphics card.
So it seemed the safest option for me to grind the block. I did notice a 4C reduction in temps with the better contact. The contact wasn't that bad with the shim on as i had it bolted down very well. |
Very nice :D

Bladerunner is one of the greater dieties of watercooling ... almost everything he makes is a work of art.
