cloud10ten 04-12-2002 01:17 AM

nice :) i have a spir@l but with the clear/blue dye and it sucks ass...my silicon tube arent even blue they are purple and i cant see anything in teh spir@l....ill prolly order me some green dye too

Xel 04-12-2002 01:41 AM

The clear/blue dye doesn't suck ass, just the fact that your silicon tube are probably purple because of water wetter...

cloud10ten 04-12-2002 03:24 AM

for my uses it does :) cause i cant even see it thru the spir@l block and silicone tubes...if i had tygon or vinyl then the clear/blue would do nicely...but still not glow thru the Spir@l top

Brad 04-12-2002 03:34 AM

heh, that looks sweet. Fix will be interested to see that

Triton 04-12-2002 03:59 AM

I agree blue dye-lite sucks.

ambient 04-12-2002 08:41 AM

mmmmmm..... that looks nice

Avatar28 04-12-2002 12:06 PM

I'm personally not a big fan of the green color. I had planned on the clear/blue. Although from what you guys are telling me, it pretty much sucks. What about the normal blue? Is it any better?

Cyco-Dude 04-12-2002 01:33 PM

didnt the guy that did the hose-shootout (Joe im guessing) have blue dye in his tubes?

Triton 04-12-2002 04:50 PM

I had regular blue and it sucks. Gonna go to Pepboys and see if they have some green stuff.

Haddy 04-12-2002 05:07 PM

herd that blue toilet bowl cleaner works nice

Cyco-Dude 04-12-2002 05:36 PM

...but that stuff probably isnt blacklight reactive...maybe if you mixed the two??

sorry thats what i meant

EMC2 04-12-2002 07:03 PM

I wouldn't suggest using bowl cleaner - corrosion and seal degradation issues are a good possibility ;)

Brad 04-12-2002 08:22 PM

what about using some food colouring? or some of the stuff they use to colour dangerous clear liquids?

Pinkster 04-12-2002 08:40 PM

what about ink from a highlighter?>

MeltMan 04-13-2002 11:50 AM

what about blue listerine? or scope? haha, i'm running some blue listerine in mine to kill stuff that tries to grow. No negative effects yet, but i havnt really tore down the sys to look for corosion... When my duron comes i'll tear down and tell ya about any negative effects.

I too am looking at coloring my setup blue with a blue CC. Would that work or do i need to get a normal blacklight?

any suggestion that will make the blue show up as good as that green?

jbe 04-14-2002 12:11 AM

does dye-light do anything to stop corrosion and keep sh!t from growing in the water?

Ahh the next generation of H2O-ers. Dye-Lite is engineered to glow specifically under a Black Light (a.k.a. UV Light). Whilst your tubing would look like this....

...I doubt, however, that it would look like this...

...or this...

(Hope this gives you some ideas, btw)

GenGoku 04-14-2002 05:46 AM

Cool thanks, i like the blue one the best :)
the green looks pretty cool too

Where did you get, or have any suggestions where to get, those UV black lights for the blue uv light and dye? Also, what's the difference between a Cold Cathode (sp) blue light vs UV BlackLight?

max007007 04-14-2002 06:24 AM

where to give the dye?
I want the brightest dye available.:D

you can get the dye from Case Etc.. you can get the black lights from PCmods and ZXmods.

the diff between a cold cathode flourescent light and an ultra-violet light (or blacklight as they are called) is that the CC is just color (like a regular neon, just brighter), while the UV light do not cast much light, but instead can illuminate UV reative stuff (such as dye-lite). florescent colors (neon yellow, neon orange, neon green, neon blue, etc) will also glow under a black light. a regular neon or CC cannot do this, only a blacklight can.
