Finally finished my first WC project
 

I would like to post some pics, but am not sure how.

I am using a Danner Mag 5 pump (did the impeller cover sealing) with a Black Ice Extreme rad, Maze 1 (P3-933) block from Danger Den, and an air trap.

Does anyone have a good solution to quiet down the "humming" of the pump? I have heard about the impeller trick, but mine isn't making any noise like that. I cut a square out of an old mouse pad and placed it under my pump (which is mounted to the bottom of my Lian Li PC-70 case). I also used rubber washers on the screws that went underneath the case into the pump.

I have heard that the Eheim 1250 is quieter than the Danner, but not sure. If I could only quiet the hum, I would be set.

well, try this. get a cardboard box (the box the pump came in would work). glue some foam around the INside of the box. place box over pump. that should help dampen the noise a little bit...

It seems that the most noise is coming from the bottom of the aluminum case do to the pump being on. I really don't think the pump itself is making that much noise.

Somebody else mentioned replacing the mouse pad under the pump with bubblerap. Kind of cheesy, but if it works.....

then perhaps mounting the case on little rubber feet would do the trick...or, just cut out little circles from an old mousepad and glue them to the bottom of the case (or heck, just put them under the case like you said).

Here's my solution;

Works great and keeps you pump attached to the case when you move it around.

I put the "soft" side on the case and the "rough" side on the pump itself. Push the pump onto the tape, wiggle it around a bit so it grabs, and that's it. I can't even hear my Rio over my 120mm fan unless I shut down the system.

I another thing to try is take the pump off the mount and just set it on the mouse pad. See if you get the same noise. Sometimes it's the vibration between the mount and the pump.

One of my favorite vibration noise reduction techniques is to use rubber coating. You can get the stuff that sprays from a can on anything you can use spraypaint on or you can buy the rubber coating dip to dip parts in. It rocks.

I used that stuff to reduce the vibration noise of my fan and my aluminum pump. Just applied a few coats to the bottom of the res/pump. I applied rubber coat on the side of my 120mm fan that touches the rubber gasket on the chassis.

You might want to try it. It only costs a few bucks at the hardware store. I forgot the name of the product, but it came in a yellow can and was next to the sealing stuff for roofs, tiles, tubs, sinks, etc.
