Danner pumps have a new inlet!

Looks like Danner wised the hell up. No longer are they using a crack-prone female inlet. They have switched to a 3/4 barb inlet. This is fantastic. Now I have to find out how I can get a hold of one of these new housings for my Danner that has been sitting here collecting dust. http://www.yourpondstore.com/images/suprem10.jpg
I bought a housing from a pet site and I can't remember where I got the darn thing. Anyone know of a place that is selling them?

hey man... question for you...

I'm running Eheim 1250 pump... it works fine.
Just for my information, how are the Danner pumps? Do they last, work well, run silently, get very hot, etc.? I was thinking about trying one in a future system... perhaps I'd run it as a submersible, perhaps not.. I just need general impressions. I know they are cheaper than Eheim.. :) oh.. what are u running now?

The barbed inlet has been availble for a long time.

ECUPirate - While there is nothing wrong with a Danner, I would stick with an Eheim if you have the money.

ECU... wait a second... switching to a Danner? Did you not just call my 250 "one, not so great, pump"
;)

Cyco-Dude 04-23-2002 01:03 PM

ack, 3/4 inch OD?? kinda fat for my system...i wonder if they have em in different sizes?
i know petsmart sells the Danner pumps, but i dont know about the housings. you might try checkcing in one of their stores...

to ECU:
ive got a 350GPH danner, it gets warm but not hot (i had mine running for several hours). when purged of air, it sounds...like a pump (low hum). you have to seal the housing to prevent it from leaking tho. ive also hear of them 'rattling' (Ehiem pumps too), but mine is fine so far. i need to test it out more :p

I dunno; I sorta like my JB WElded/RTV Forma Gasket/Gooped Danner:

Finally got the damn thing water/air tight and it has been a workhorse for months since.

The Danners I believe can produce a bit less pressure than the Eheims, so (esp in a more restricted loop) you get closer to the flow rating of the Eheim than with the Danners. Both are not so great though compared to some other pumps designed to produce some pressure:

pHaestus,
LOL! That pump looks like it was in 'Nam! Poor little thing! :p

DANNER=EMI=SCREWED UP SYSTEM.

from experience.

Eheim are considered to be better, but both are excellant.

hehe. based on what I've heard, I wouldn't want one inside my case. I was interested in building a completely external cooling system, and I wanted a less expensive pump to screw around with. :) Just want to know if they are OK, or a definite no-no.

Danner pumps function great with alot of flow, low sound and low heat. The problem has always been the face plates breaking. Mr. Thompson says they have been around for a while which I wasn't aware of. If i was, I would have went that route initially. Anyone know how to specify one with the barbed inlet when ordering one?

The kind of pump most of us would choose have 1/2" inlet according to Danner. . . I'm still not sure what "MPT" stands for, though. . .

melvyn 04-24-2002 06:41 PM

MPT = male pipe thread

One of the many different standards for threaded pipe connectors.

Pyrotechnic 04-25-2002 09:39 PM

GHETTO danner !! i used to use a marineland 1140, i had to put marine goop over every damn seam to get it water tight. I have an eheim 1048 now though:D
